Kim Dong-young (born on (1996-02-01)February 1, 1996), better known by his stage name Doyoung, is a South Korean singer. He is best known as a member of the South Korean boy group NCT, and its sub-groups NCT U and NCT 127.[1]

Early life[edit]

Doyoung was born Kim Dong-young on February 1, 1996 in Guri, South Korea. His elder brother is Gong Myung (real name Kim Dong-hyun) of 5urprise. As a young teenager he joined his school's cultural group and played the flute in various cultural events after mastering the instrument.[2] In 2013, he won first place at the Gyeonggi Youth Arts Festival, and was cast into S.M. Entertainment later in the same year, dropping out of high school in the process.

Career[edit]

2013-2015: Pre-Debut[edit]

He was formally introduced as a member of SM Rookies in January 2015, accompanied with the announcement that he and fellow member Jaehyun would become MCs for Show Champion.[3] He left that position in July 2015 to prepare for debut, and was replaced by Kim Shin-young.[4]

2016–present: NCT[edit]

Doyoung made his debut as a member of NCT U in April 2016 with the double released digital singles "The 7th Sense" and "Without You", with the latter of the two being released in both Korean and Chinese.[5][6]

In January 2017, he was added to the lineup of NCT 127 along with Johnny for their second mini album Limitless.[7] In February, Doyoung became a regular MC on Inkigayo along with Black Pink's Jisoo and Got7's Jinyoung.[8]

In January 2018, Doyoung and fellow member Taeil released the song "Radio Romance" as the soundtrack of the drama of the same name.[9]
