Dr. Mahesh Chandra Sharma Gautam (Mahesh Gautam) is an Indian scholar of Sanskrit and Hindi language. Sahitya Akademi (Rashtriya Sahitya Sansthan) bestowed Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 on his Sanskrit novel Vaishali.

Biography[edit]

Mahesh Chandra Sharma Gautam was born on 24th December, 1979, at Patiala in the Indian State of Punjab. His initial studies were in the traditional way as he learnt Sanskrit grammar from his father who was great Sanskrit scholar Pt. Baldev Krishan Shastri. Then he joined Govt. Institute of Indian Oriental Languages, Patiala where great Sanskrit scholar Acharya Durga Dutt Vagmi was the principal. He attained B.A.(Sanskrit) and M.A.(Hindi) from Punjab University Chandigarh as a private candidate. He secured Ph.D. degree in Sanskrit from Punjabi University, Patiala under Prof. Abhimanyu Malik. The topic of his Ph.D. was 'Punjab Ka Sanskrit Kavya Ko Yogdan'.

  • Mahesh Chandra Sharma Gautam started his career by joining K.K. High School Rajpura, Teacher on 25th July, 1968. He joined C.R. Dass High School, Babyal (Ambala). On 10th February, 1998 he was prompted as lecturer in Hindi and served in
  • Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bhagal.
  • Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School, Cheeka Distt. Kaithal.

He retired form Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School, Cheeka Distt. Kaithal on 31st December, 2007. Worthy Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar appointed him Prominent Member of Board of Studies in the subject of Sanskrit (UG) for the term/period 01-07-2020 to 30-06-2022. President over a seminar on 24.03.2017 at Guru Nanak Bhawan Conference Hall, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on the subject 'Sanskrit Sahitya Men Guru Gobind Singh Ji Ka Jeevan Evam Darshan'.
