Dr. Muhammad Khalid Syed: (Urdu: محمد خالد سید; born 5 August 1969) is a consultant Paediatric surgeon in King Fahad Specialist Hospital Dammam in Saudi Arabia and the writer of the book Multiple Choice Questions in Paediatric Surgery
Early life and education
Born in 1969, in Sita Road (Rahmani Nagar), Dadu District, Sindh, Pakistan. He received his early education in Sita Road and Khairpur Nathan Shah. His parents migrated from the Rajasthan province of India at the time of the partition of British India.
He graduated as a doctor (MBBS) from Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 1993. He worked at various hospitals in Karachi, received paediatric surgery training at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) Karachi, and obtained his FCPS (Fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan in Paediatric surgery) in 2003. After his fellowship in paediatric surgery, he worked for two years in Karachi before moving to Saudi Arabia, where he worked for seven years. He passed the MRCS (Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK) examination in 2009. He moved to Ireland and worked there from 2012 to 2017. While in Ireland, he earned a diploma in minimal access surgery (laparoscopy) from Strasbourg, France in 2013 and passed the European Board of Paediatric Surgery in 2015. He was awarded the FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons) in 2015. In late 2017, he returned to Saudi Arabia and joined King Fahad Hospital, Al Baha as a consultant Paediatric surgeon. He performs all types of emergency and elective paediatric surgery.
Academic Work
Dr. Khalid has authored two books on paediatric surgery, both published in late 2018 by Partridge Publishers, Singapore. One is “Multiple Choice Questions in Paediatric Surgery”, and the other is "Atlas of Paediatric Surgery with MCQs in Paediatric surgery”.
Special interest
Dr. Khalid has a special interest in neonatal surgery as well as teaching and training junior doctors.
Political affiliation
He is a registered member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) overseas group and believes Imran Khan can bring positive change to Pakistan.
Charity work
He established and financially supported a free clinic in his hometown (Sita Road) for the poor in 2006, operating for seven years. He collected donations from friends in Saudi Arabia for flood-affected people in Sindh and South Punjab in 2010.
Ambition
To contribute to improving the healthcare system in Pakistan. To establish a non-profit children's hospital in Sindh, Pakistan. To write a textbook on paediatric surgery.
