The Embassy of the United States in Kuala Lumpur is the diplomatic mission of the United States of America in Malaysia.
History[edit]
On August 31, 1957, the United States recognized the Federation of Malaya following Malaya's independence from the United Kingdom. The same year, the U.S. Consulate General in Kuala Lumpur was elevated to an Embassy.[1][2]
In addition to the establishment of consular posts in Kuala Lumpur in 1948, and Kuching in 1964, the current chancery of the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur was completed in 1983. The relationship between the two countries was further strengthened in April 2014 when President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Najib Razak elevated the bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership as part of the Pivot to Asia policy.[3][2]
In October 2023, there were protests outside the embassy in response to the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital explosion.[4]
