Hasan Khurshid Rumi (Bengali: হাসান খুরশীদ রুমি; born November 2, 1959) is a Bangladeshi writer, translator and editor and cover designer. He associated with audio-visual media and was the co-editor of the first Bangladeshi science fiction magazines Moulik and Unmad.

Personal life[edit]

Hasan Khurshid Rumi was born on November 2, 1959 in Chittagong.[1] He grew up in Old Dhaka. His grandfather helped make the Indian constitution. He graduated from Jagannath University.[citation needed]

His mother and his grandfather's collection inspired him to become a writer.

Career[edit]

With Humayun Ahmed and Muhammed Zafar Iqbal he helped establish Bengali science fiction. He mentored many young translators and sci-fi writers. He wrote Ora Esechilo, a collection of science fiction short stories. He wrote many stories and articles in Rohosho Potrika, a thriller and science fiction magazine from 1970 to 1990. He translated nearly 30 books and edited another 40.

Rumi co-edited Bangladesh's first science fiction magazine Moulik and was on the editorial board of Kishor Patrika, He is the associate executive editor of satirical monthly Unmad.[1] For 25 years, science fiction was its only format. He edited short stories coming from West Bengal, India and Bangladesh.

He is also a successful cover designer and media organizer.

Anonymity[edit]

While mentoring nearly 50 writers and translators in various ways, helping to publish many books, translating Western stories, he maintained his privacy. No published photograph of him exists.

In Ohok, Humayun Ahmed said that Rumi would put science fiction in Bangladesh on air.[citation needed]
