Henry Danger: The Musical is a television special, serving as the 20th episode of the fifth season of Henry Danger. It originally aired on the cable network Nickelodeon in the United States on July 27, 2019.
Henry Danger: The Musical follows returning villain Frankini, who uses a machine to cast a musical curse over Swellview which forces everyone within the town to sing, tiring out all of its inhabitants. With no physical way to end this problem, Captain Man and Kid Danger must find another way to end the curse.
Plot
At Frankini Klub, Frankini is struggling to get his machine to work, which he wanted to use to start a musical epidemic. Mr. Curtis, the repairman, figures out that Goomer was inside the machine, the latter claiming to have been playing hide and seek. When Mr. Curtis asks for payment, Frankini zaps him unconscious and starts the machine, casting the musical curse over Swellview.
Henry wakes up to the musical curse, him and all of Swellview confused as to why they were singing, though Frankini hacks the news and lets everyone know it was his doing ("There's a Musical Curse Over Swellview"). At the Man Cave, the gang wonder what they are going to do about the situation. Henry arrives and Jasper informs him of the day's events ("You'll Never Believe What Happened"). When everyone began talking normally for a moment, Henry immediately believes the curse is broken, only to break into song again. Charlotte and Schwoz explain why this occurred, until Ray cut in and sung about his hatred for musicals ("Ray Hates Musicals"), when he auditioned for a musical about cats as a child, but didn't get the role. Afterwards, Frankini is spotted at the park, so Henry and Ray head there.
At the park, the vendors sing about their products. Frankini is pleased to see this. Piper notices him and expresses her and Swellview's hatred for the curse ("We Hate This Curse"). Eventually, Kid Danger and Captain Man arrive and attempt to fight Frankini, only to realize it was futile ("The Swellview Summer Market Fight"). After their loss, Frankini announced an intermission and he and Goomer fled the park. Kid Danger and Captain Man assumed the intermission meant the curse would be over, but the next day proved otherwise.
Back at the Man Cave, Schwoz and Charlotte are tiying to locate Frankini. To speed up the process, Ray, Henry, and Jasper sing a song complimenting them ("That's Why You Have Us"), which appears to work, as they locate Frankini at Karayodelyheehoo. The heroes receive a video call from Frankini, who challenges them to a musical battle to end the curse ("Meet Me Here Tonight"). Afterwards, the gang look for potential singers, but realize Ray is nowhere to be found. They received a video message from Ray, letting them know he left Swellview because he couldn't physically end this problem. On the news, Trent and Mary brought in park vendors who were witnesses to Captain Man's departure ("Breaking News"). Afterwards, Frankini hacks the news again, threatening to change the curse to thrash metal if Captain Man didn't return ("I Heard a Little Rumor").
Jasper manages to recognize where Ray is in the video. In the same moment, Henry gets a text from his mother asking him to join the family in making lunch, though it is evident that Piper and Kris are exhausted by the musical ("Time for Lunch"). As a coping mechanism, Jake tells Piper to sing about the things that she wants, and he would go and buy them, and so she does and Kris joins ("The Want Song"). Meanwhile, Henry, disguised as a woman named Hazel, goes to Ray's location to bring him back, using the sleepy gas that the Toddler had once used to make Ray fall asleep.
On the drive back to Swellview, Ray was furious after being abducted, but later admitted he was afraid to sing fight Frankini. Therefore, Henry sings an encouraging song in order to restore Ray's bravery ("The Bro Song"). Meanwhile, Jasper and Schwoz had reached out to a lot of famous singer, all of which declined the offer ("It'll Be Great"). Jasper then thought of the perfect candidate: Piper. Kid Danger and Captain Man go to the Hart residence to retrieve Piper.
On the news, Trent and Mary let viewers know that the fight would begin shortly before the channel was hacked again. Kid Danger, Captain Man, and Piper fight against Frankini, only to be quickly defeated against Frankini's excellent singing. Kid Danger and Piper both realize that musicals end with a finale song, and they convince Captain Man to sing it, to which everyone begins to sing along, even Goomer ("The Cheesy Grand Finale"), which finally puts an end to the curse.
Production
Development
The idea for a musical episode of Henry Danger stemmed from frequent series writer Samantha Martin, who initially pitched the idea to executive producer Christopher J. Nowak as a half-hour special, but the episode was later expanded to an hour-long special.[2] Filming took at least three weeks to complete.[3]
Henry Danger: The Musical was written by Martin.[4] Steve Hoefer, who has directed various episodes of the series, served as the director of Henry Danger: The Musical. Cris Judd served as the choreographer.[5] The special features 26 original songs, all of which were written by Martin.[3] 16 of those songs were featured in the special's soundtrack album.[4]
Casting
The special features the main cast of the series; Jace Norman as Henry Hart/Kid Danger, Cooper Barnes as Ray Manchester/Captain Man, Riele Downs as Charlotte Page, Sean Ryan Fox as Jasper Dunlop, Ella Anderson as Piper Hart, and Michael D. Cohen as Schwoz Schwartz.
Frankie Grande reprises his guest role as Frankini, marking his fourth appearance in the series, after the "Live & Dangerous" two-parter of season three and the season four episode "Captain Man-kini".[3] Zoran Korach also reprises his role as Goomer, Frankini's assistant.

Henry Danger: The Musical received 1.18 million viewers upon its initial premiere,[6] and a total of 2.2 million viewers across three days of delayed viewing, making it one of the highest-rated broadcasts for the series in two years.[7][2]
