imToken Pte. Ltd. is a technology company located in Singapore and develops blockchain-based cryptocurrency wallets. The company was founded in 2016 by Bin He and operates as a subsidiary of Hangzhou Rongshi Technology Co., Ltd.[1][2]
In Mai 2018, the company received a US$10 million investment, from the venture capital firm IDG Capital as part of a series A round.[3]
The company develops a cryptocurrency wallet app with identical name. The wallet app offers the ability to store, send, and trade multiple cryptocurrencies and to access decentralized applications through the built-in browser.[4]
The imToken app belongs to a group of cryptocurrency wallets which store the user's own public and private key. Using this key pair the owner controls access to the own cryptocurrency funds. The funds are not stored in the wallet app itself, but decentrally in the respective blockchain. In contrast to this wallet type, custodial wallets such as exchanges hold the user's funds in trust.[3]
