The India Institute is an independent, non-profit public policy research and advocacy Think tank.It endeavors in promoting dignity , choice and enterprise through research,advocacy and litigation.It is founded in 2010 with a vision to contribute in building a ''free'' and ''just society'' in which one has the right and opportunity to live a life of one's choice. The advisory board[1] of India Institute contains prominent personalities from diverse backgrounds including former CEO of Procter & Gamble, director of Center for the Advanced Study of India and Secretary General of Indian Society of International Law. The Institute lead ,by founder & Director Baladevan Rangaraju, is committed to facilitate efficient and accountable governance through cutting edge research and advocacy of progressive policy ideas.

Focus[edit]

India Institute’s objective is to research on several issues plaguing the education system of India and advocate innovative solutions which promote efficiency, transparency, accountability and competition among private and public stakeholders in the education sector.The Institute advocates in favor of deregulation of the government, parental choices and competition among private and government players in school and higher education.The Institute also is concerned with the awareness of citizens regarding Rule of Law and strides towards strengthening citizens to rightly exploit it.Centre for Justice [2] the legal research and litigation wing of India Institute, is among the first legal research institutions in the country dedicated to fighting for freedom. Founded in January 2013,Centre for Justice will act as a platform for dialogue, reasoning and legal action to defend rule of law,promote competition and secure individual freedom. Further more,International experience confirms that one of the determining factors of prosperity of a country or people is the respect and the protection it accords to Property Rights of its citizens. The India Property Rights Alliance[3] is an initiative of India Institute to form a network of organizations and individuals dedicated to the promotion of rule of law and, the protection of property rights.

The organization is founded by a social entrepreneur and is operating in New Delhi, as a public policy think tank, from 2010.The main areas of focus are School Education , Higher Education,Property Rights and Law. The main idea of the organization is to initially observe activities in the society, identify the issues,analyze the root cause and finally give policy solutions. In 2011 The Private School Revolution in Bihar [4] project was executed with a motive to improve the recognition policy for private schools, by submitting concrete data and proofs which were obtained after conducting a landscape study of private schools in entire Patna city using Global Positioning System.The study is done in collaboration with New Castle University. It received the Templeton Freedom Award [5] for it's Patna study by a Young Institute in 2012.

In 2014 India Institute Founder and Director Baladevan Rangaraju won the Think Tank Shark Tank competition [6] at the Atlas Leadership Summit in New York for a revolutionary idea. A smartphone app called i°torney has been designed to inform citizens and help them combat police atrocities and prevent custodial crimes.

Furthermore,In an attempt to provide a platform for think tanks ,research organizations ,political activists,intellectuals and policy makers to share their ideas on policy implementations, India Institute organized India Property Rights Conference [7] on 13 July 2015. The motive of this initiative, is to create an annual forum for the exchange of information and ideas on property rights and rule of law in India.The conclusions drawn from the forum and various policy solutions identified , are communicated to the Government of India.

Right from the inception , the institute is contributing it's part in making of a better society.In the process it ensures that the values of Independent decision making ,Integrity,Advocating Responsibilityand pursuit of Excellenceare honored. Since,List of think tanks in India and research organisations are less compared to other nations, the organization hopes that its work and commitment will benefit the public at large.The projects are designed to help create a society that gives equal opportunity for all to prosper.The Institute undertook policy recommendation projects to further the mission to promote dignity, choice and enterprise. A study on the status of basic education serviced in the hill region of Uttarakhand based on primary observations in the four villages of Dharkot, Kasiyali, Khera and Kair Sainth was undertaken and submitted to Shri Sudarshan Agarwal, former Governor of Uttarakhand and Sikkim. Further to this ,Save Deepalaya(a un-aided private school) campaign done by the institute got widespread response and shed some light on current policies followed in licensing of schools and how it is placing unfair & undesirable amount of discretion in the hands of state.

As a policy institute by core, II understands the importance of awareness to basic laws to common man. NITI EXPRESS ,a legal rights and policy awareness campaign for common man, was launched which educates people,through stories aired in Radio and you tube, on how norms and legal policies are impacting their common life and motivate them to envisage a society in which accountability, transparency or efficiency in governance exists.On a similar note , an app named i°torney which would act as a pocket-lawyer is also launched and is available in Google play.

In this way , year long there are many activities and surveys carried over to constantly highlight the issues which need immediate action by the Government,Also events which provoke citizens of India to play their role in achieving a just society.

India Institute has a well-regarded internship program to encourage young minds to gain insight into socio-economic problems and to assimilate liberal ideas through extensive hands-on exposure to serious research projects. Students from divergent streams such as history, economics, political science, statistics, law and business management of prominent institutions are selected through a well-defined selection process.India Institute also hosted several talks on varied themes to encourage conversation and learning from each other within the community.
