Jayesh A. Punater is an Indian-American entrepreneur known as the founder and CEO of Gravitas and Nucleus, tech firms based in New York.[1][2]
Early life and education[edit]
Jayesh was born into a family of industrialists - whose ancestry was linked to the Maharaja of Jamnagar - a port city in the state of Gujarat in Western India. He was born in Nairobi, Kenya where his father had a family business in textiles, amusement parks, cement and computers.
At the age of 5 Jayesh moved to India when his family relocated to Mumbai. He did his schooling in Mumbai at the prestigious Green Lawns High School and achieved top distinction in school. He was the school chess champion and won many awards in swimming.
At the age of 16 he moved back to Kenya and attended the International school of Kenya in Nairobi. After a year there, he moved to the UK and went to boarding school at the Great Malvern School in Worcestershire in the Midlands. Subsequent to his A levels he moved to Arizona State University (ASU) in 1984 to study Physics. He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Economics.
Career[edit]
In 1984 while working at the Microcomputer Research Facility on the ASU campus, Jayesh worked with and evaluated the top computers of that age including Dell, IBM, Apple and many others and co-authored an article that was published by Byte Magazine.In college Jayesh started and ran a consulting and import export business called Mondial.[3]
After graduating from ASU in 1989, Jayesh moved to New York and joined a startup called Digital Network Associates (DNA) in 1990 as an engineer, where he rose to the position of Head of Financial Services within in the firm.
In 1996, Jayesh founded his company named Gravitas.[4] He started the business in his apartment on the upper east side - with no partners nor backing - and built it from a startup to a multi-million dollar firm globally with over 300 employees and sold it in 2017 to Linedata, a French listed firm.[5][6]
In 2017, Jayesh founded Nucleus, a FinTech studio and venture investment platform based in New York. He is currently the CEO of the company. In 2018, he became the Executive Chairman of FirstAI, a New York-based Fintech firm.[7]
Personal life[edit]
In 2001, Jayesh met Shilpa, a textile designer, and they got married in 2004. They have two children, Arun-jit and Aum.
