K Ranju Rangan (born 28 May 1976) is an Indian-born consultant for skill development and safe migration BMS[disambiguation needed], Qatar.

He is actively involved in the safe migration program and skill development programs in Bangladesh and his activities where centralized on Bangladesh - Qatar corridor[citation needed]. His initiative on migration through skill development programs had resulted in stiff resistance from many recruitment agencies in Bangladesh but he continues to advocate for it in the international platform with many international organizations[citation needed]. His initiative was accepted by many organizations as a step forward towards zero migration cost to migrant workers[citation needed].

Early life[edit]

Born in the small village of Hnahthial in Mizoram, Ranju was born an only child to two teacher parents, his father being P.V. Ranganathan who was the Vice Principal of Hnahthial Government Higher Secondary School and a Mathematics teacher. He was considered an intellectual student by his teachers, and this was shown in his class 10 MBSE examination where he scored all time record marks in Mathematics[citation needed]. Ranju was always focused on his future goals. After his father's retirement Ranju and his family settled in his home town Kudassanad in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala State.[citation needed]

Despite an initial hesitation from his parents in pursuing pilot courses professionally, Ranju joined the pilot course but later was disqualified on medical grounds[citation needed]. His career and personal was bumpy, difficult at times and enjoyable at others. He continued his education and went on to take his post graduation in Human Resources Management from Annamalai University from where he is currently pursuing his PhD on migration[citation needed].

Career[edit]

Ranju started his career in Doha, Qatar as a Human Resource Officer in a Qatari owned company.[citation needed] He later changed his sponsor several times but he continued to focus on human resources management, specifically human rights and overseas recruitment of migrant workers. Ranju is involved in the recruitment of migrant workers from Indian sub-continents, Vietnam, Philippines and Africa, and is frequently involved in migration of diverse multicultural organization towards ethical business practices.[citation needed] He has an extensive experience in fundraising for skill development projects which he believes to be the first step towards safe migration.[citation needed] His initiative of safe migration through skill development seems to has resulted in a drop in the recruitment cost of migrant Bangladeshi workers[citation needed] . Ranju was also involved in the monitoring of migration and human rights related issues both in sending and receiving countries.[citation needed] Though his initial career he was focused on recruitment and welfare of migrant workers he was keen to know more about recruitment procedures in sending countries. Ranju once narrated a story of a Bangladeshi migrant worker he met in Doha Airport who lost his job in six months after coming to Qatar in debt and having no place to sleep whom was later offered a job without a single recruitment fee being charged.[citation needed] This was the turning point in Ranju's career towards safe migration.[citation needed]

He has published many articles on migration and among which "Challenges and issues related to low and semi skilled migrant workers from Bangladesh" and "Is employer or recruitment agency responsible for ethical recruitment practices" were widely discussed and even published in Bangladesh.[1][2]
