Kaustubh Marathe is an Indian jeweler and businessman. He is the co-owner of Marathe Jewellers, a jewelry brand located in Pune, Maharashtra.[1] He, along with his brother, Milind Marathe, founded the jewelry brand in 2012.[2]
Early life
Marathe was born into the aristocratic and illustrious Chitpavan brahmin[3] Marathe family of Miraj and Sangli.[2] The family has ancestral ties with the textile industry in Maharashtra.[2] His mother is the daughter of the late Laxman Vasudev "Nanakaka" Gadgil and the niece of the late Anant "Dajikaka" Gadgil, the founders of P N GADGIL & Co. in Pune.[4] Through his mother, he is a third cousin of the current chairman of PNG Jewellers, Saurabh Gadgil.[4] He is also a third cousin of music director Mandar Agashe (third cousin, once removed from his son, Adi Agashé), cricketer Ashutosh Agashe, and actress Sheetal Agashe.[4]
Marathe was educated at Chintaman Rao College of Commerce in Sangli, graduating in 1988.[1]
Marathe is married to Manjiri Marathe (née Purandare). They have one son.[4]
Career
Marathe and his brother started working under their maternal uncle, Rajabhau Gadgil, at PNG Gems and Jewellery in Pune, in 1997.[2] Under his guidance, they started trading in diamonds and diamond articles for regular trade.[1][2]
In 2012, the brothers left PNG and started their own store, Marathe Jewellers, located on Laxmi Road.[2] Their business venture received a positive response.[1][2] As of 2015, they had two stores—one on Laxmi Road and the other on Paud Road. In 2016, they launched their third store, also on Laxmi Road.[2] The store is 6,250 sq. ft. in area and is state-of-the-art.[2]
The brand has come to sponsor many cultural programmes of Ustad Zakir Hussain.[2] They have also associated with Wasant Utsav, which has added to their brand image.[2]
