"Kimmy Gets a Job!" is the second episode of the first season of the American streaming television sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The episode premiered in the United States on Netflix on March 6, 2015. The show's teleplay was written by Sam Means. "Kimmy Gets a Job!" was directed by Tristram Shapeero.

In this episode, Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) begs Jaqueline Voorhees (Jane Krakowski) for her job back. Jaqueline agrees to give back her job if Kimmy can plan a birthday party for her son Buckley (Tanner Flood) and impress Jaqueline's husband, Julian, who will be arriving from London. Kimmy also catches Jaqueline's fifteen year-old step-daughter Xanthippe (Dylan Gelula) drinking and plans to ground her. At the same time, Kimmy's roommate, Titus Andromedon (Titus Burgess), attempts to get his security deposit back from a costume rental shop.

Plot[edit]

The next day after the events of the pilot, Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) returns to Jaqueline Voorhees' (Jane Krakowski) house to ask for her job back. Jaqueline agrees and tasks Kimmy with planning a superhero-themed birthday party for her son Buckley (Tanner Flood). She also tells Kimmy that her husband, Julian, will be returning to New York after being away in London for two months. While she is out shopping, she sees her roommate Titus Andromedon (Titus Burgess) still working as a knock-off Iron Man in Times Square. She tells him to sell the costume so he can use money to buy headshots but he tells her that it is rented from a costume shop. Though, he does remember that he bought a security deposit for two-hundred dollars and that he can get it back. However, when he arrives at the rental shop, the owner Ray (Bill Cwikowski) tells him that the costume is too damaged to be returned, though Titus swears that he kept it clean.

Back at the Voorhees' residence, Kimmy finds Jaqueline's fifteen year-old step-daughter Xanthippe (Dylan Gelula) and her friend Simone (Katherine Reis) drunk. Kimmy tells them that she has to reprimand them but Xanthippe tells her that Kimmy has no authority over her. Jaqueline returns home to find Kimmy's home-made party decorations and tells her to spend as much money as it takes to pull off a perfect party. On a subway train, a mariachi band arrives and tells Titus that they want to return their costumes as well but Ray would not let them. Titus realizes that Ray is illegally renting costumes and is infringing on intellectual property. He gathers several knock-off characters in Times Square and they go to the costume shop to get their money back. Ray admits that his business is a scam and they celebrate.

At the party, Jaqueline announces that Julian is (at first) arriving late and then that he will not be coming at all to the party. A disappointed Buckley tells Jaqueline that he wanted a super villain party and she fires Kimmy. Kimmy returns home and asks Titus to get his robot costume back. The two of them go back to the Voorhees house and Kimmy allows Buckley to fight Titus in the robot costume. Kimmy also succeeds in grounding Xanthippe by blackmailing her. Kimmy realizes that a story Xanthippe told her friends actually came from a Babysitter's Club book. Kimmy tells Jaqueline of her success and Jaqueline agrees to hire Kimmy full-time. She confides to Kimmy that she is worried Julian is having an affair. Kimmy tells Jaqueline about a trick she used in the bunker where she asks herself "Can you make it through the next ten seconds?" and if she can, she counts to ten and then starts again. Jaqueline asks Kimmy to comfort her and Kimmy begins to uncomfortably count to ten.
