Komoju Co., Ltd. (株式会社KOMOJU) is a subsidiary of Degica[1], providing a payment system to eCommerce companies interested in localizing their checkout page. Headquartered in Tokyo, Komoju supplies Japanese and South Korean domestic payment methods, such as Credit Cards, konbini, wire transfer, and Digital Currency.

Name[edit]

Komoju is short for 購入モジュール (Kōnyū Mojūru), Japanese for "Purchasing Module".

History[edit]

Komoju was launched in 2015 in Tokyo: connected merchants can accept payments from an international and domestic pool of products, including Visa, Mastercard, JCB, and Japan's domestic alternatives, such as konbini, WebMoney Japan, and nanaco. In 2018, Komoju expanded to South Korea: the South Korean payment ecosystem is dominated by Domestic Schemes [2], followed by convenience stores, prepaid vouchers [3], and mobile payment.

Japanese and South Korean Payments Landscape[edit]

Komoju is part of a small niche of payment platforms supporting domestic payment methods in Japan and South Korea, including GMO [4], Softbank Group, and Inicis. Localization is an important factor for foreign companies interested in those two markets; especially Japan represents a challenge due to its unique blend of products and its long-term attachment to cash transactions.

Foreign Partners[edit]

Komoju is partnered with companies such as Steam, Blizzard Entertainment, Razer Inc., AVG Technologies, Wargaming, and HTC Vive. Komoju can be implemented in Shopify[5], Spree Commerce[6], and WooCommerce[7].
