Impacts of Tourism and Construction on Environment in Pattaya[edit]
Since 2000, major ongoing construction projects have had both positive and negative effects on the Pattaya environment. [1]
Participation[edit]
In 2010-2016 Pattaya experienced a building boom, increasing the total number of launched condominium units from 10,000 to over 70,000 registered.[2] The increase in building construction affects both the number of citizens and the tourists who are active in the city. In a fast growing environment like Pattaya with numerous large construction projects, local citizens need to be involved in order to participate in the review and approval of new development projects.[3]
Environmental impact assessment (EIA) of development projects[edit]
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an assessment process for the significance of the potentially positive and negative effects of a development project. These potential environmental impacts are measured and appropriate precautionary steps are taken. Once the project has been approved, it can be built after obtaining the planning permission.[4] [5]
