Make It Cheaper[3] is a UK and Australia-based company specialising in financial services for small to medium-sized businesses and charitable organisations. In the UK, the company compares prices on a range of products and sets up new deals for energy (electricity and gas), insurance and telecoms (phone and broadband) in a voice-based service. In Australia, the company specialises purely in energy.[4]
History[edit]
Make It Cheaper was founded by Jonathan Elliott.[1] in 2007, with seven employees based in a small office near London’s Borough Market. Initially focusing on energy, the service would compare rates from different gas and electricity suppliers with a view to switching the customer to a cheaper deal.
After its first year, the company moved to bigger premises in Waterloo, London during 2008, recruiting an additional 23 members of staff as its operations grew following the launch of a partnership with Moneysupermarket.com. By August 2009 the company had grown even further and expanded its operations overseas by opening an office in Sydney, Australia.
Chris Cole[2] joined the UK team as Chief Operating Officer in 2010, and in the same year Make It Cheaper extended its offering to include a business telecoms switching service.[5] For the next three years Make It Cheaper ranked in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100,[6] and in 2011 launched a FSA (now FCA)-accredited sister company specialising in insurance brokering, named Make It Cheaper Financial Services.[7] As the business continued to grow, Make It Cheaper acquired the domestic energy comparison website UK Power in 2012.
In August 2014, with more than 140 staff and working with partners such as uSwitch and Gocompare.com, Make It Cheaper moved into an office in Tower Hill in the City of London.
