Mark Flood is a Scottish animator, film director, producer, writer and voice actor.[1] He is the founder and Creative Director of Mark Flood Animations in Glasgow. His films are animated traditionally.[1]

Early life[edit]

Flood was born in Paisley in Renfrewshire, Scotland. Flood attended classes at the Glasgow School of Art.

Career[edit]

In October 2011, Flood established an animators' group in Glasgow, called Mark Flood Animations, which uses only traditional hand-drawn animation.[1] The company's first film, The Freak Next Door, was shown at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Flood volunteers weekly for the MediCinema charity in Yorkhill Children's Hospital.[1]

Health[edit]

In December 2010, Flood was rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke caused by complications of infective endocarditis due to mitral valve prolapse. Until this point, he had been in full health almost his whole life. He lost the ability to move, write and speak properly, and was temporarily wheelchair bound. Due to the damage his brain suffered, his drawings skills were severely damaged and he required intense physiotherapy to regain his talent, as well as antibiotic treatment for the bacterial infection in his mitral valve. He made a full recovery in two months.[1][3]
