Kano State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission[edit]

With the coming of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in 2015, being a leader of the most populous state in Nigeria, he reasoned that to promote good governance and enhance dispute resolution mechanism in the state, there was the need to minimize friction and litigation processes among the populace, Governor Ganduje’s screened and settled for Barrister Muhuyi Magaji RaminGado's impeccable credentials and made him the Executive Chairman with a simple directive: “that place is not working, go and make it work!”. Upon stepping in, Muhuyi realized that there was a lot to be done to achieve this instruction. Then there were only 33 cases, with only 4 departments and staff strength whose capacity were abysmally low. On assumption of duty, he saw the need for competent manpower as the engine room for development, therefore, with Gov's approvals, scores of competent personnel were employed at the commission.[3]

Sanusi and Kano Emirate Council Probe[edit]

Muhuyi Magaji as chairman PCACC began a fresh investigation of Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi for an alleged illegal sales of landed property. The commission also invited him to appear before it on Monday 9 March 2020, to clear himself of the allegation. The commission’s investigation came two days after the state house of assembly directed the house committee on public petition to also investigate petition filed against the monarch. The commission had earlier submitted a report to Kano state government recommending the suspension of the emir. It, however, said the fresh investigation has nothing to do with alleged mismanagement of N3.4bn by the Emirate Council.[4]

Aisha Muhammad Bello Probe[edit]

Muhuyi applauded some judges in Kano for facilitating the course of justice against corruption, he insisted that the conduct of the judge in question, in no less amounted to judicial misconduct that, the agency would resist. He then accused a Kano high Court judge of impeding investigation and the judicial process on N100million fraud suit filed by the agency. The agency had filed a criminal suit against the immediate past Kano state Accountant General, Aisha Mohammad Bello who was accused of diversion of N100million.[5]

Price Hike[edit]

In Kano State and other parts of northern Nigeria, traders see the Ramadan fasting period as a time to maximise profit, especially on commodities that attract regular and high demand, including textile materials. As a result of the steady hike in prices of goods, the general public became restless because things became highly unaffordable to average families. People of the state called on the concerned authorities to come to their aid, especially as the promised palliatives were taking eternity to arrive. The Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission in the state, headed by Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, a lawyer, mapped out modalities to address the issue of price hike. Part of the success achieved 50 kg of processed rice would be supplied and the retail price should not exceed N16, 000 per bag. It was also gathered that before the commission’s intervention, the price of made in Nigeria rice went up to N23, 000 in some major markets in the state. Similarly, the commission also succeeded in ensuring that the Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria reduced the price of sachet water from N120 per bag to N80.

Suspension From Duty[edit]

Barely a week after an online news platform Daily Nigeria's reports on Gov Ganduje's plan to remove Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, Kano State House of Assembly on the 5th of July 2021 announced his suspension as the chairman of the commission after receiving a petition from the state Accountant General for rejecting a direct posting of a staff from his office. For some, the reason for his suspension is a smokescreen, as it is firmly believed that he is involved in an investigation of the first family of Kano State.

Ganduje Probe[edit]

In later June 2021, the Daily Nigerian reported that Ganduje was pressuring the Kano State House of Assembly to remove him from his position as Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission. Earlier in June, Rimingado, who had been under public pressure to investigate Ganduje since the 2018 bribery scandal, had requested information on construction of the Kano Cancer Centre and the state government's procurement of diesel. The Cancer Centre's construction was purportedly controlled by an associate of the Ganduje family while the government diesel procurement was under the direct control of Ganduje's family members. When Rimingado began to look into the contracts and nature of the Cancer Centre's construction and diesel procurement, Ganduje pushed for his removal throughout June 2021.
