Nameless is the fifth release by the John Spignesi Band. It is their second EP to be released as a band and the last album to feature keyboardist Chris Mitchell, who was dismissed in December 2020 due to growing health concerns.

Background[edit]

Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" was the driving force for the concept of the EP.

With much of their Summer and Fall tour cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, JSB turned their attention to the studio. An acoustic album was the original plan, but being close to Halloween, Drummer Matt Alling approached Spignesi with the idea of a concept album based off "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe. Jeffery divided the poem into five sections, and Spignesi set out to write the music for each section.

Recording[edit]

The band recorded the instrumentals for Nameless in just two days in late September. For the first time in their career, they did not use Ace Tone Productions or Matt Terribile for recording. The band instead recorded at Joe Jeffery's home studio, dubbed "The Richmond House." JSB logged nearly 17 hours of recording in just two days, the three members learning the songs only moments before recording. Jeffery mixed and mastered the EP himself, using Terribile's mixes as guides. The EP was released on October 15, 2020.
