Dr. Nauman Chaudhry, MD is an American retina specialist and president of Retina Group of New England in New London,[1][2] CT.[1] He is the former Senior Partner of New England Retina Associates in Hamden, CT.[5][3] [4]

Early life[edit]

Nauman Chaudhry a Pakistan American was born in Karachi, Pakistan. He went to Aga Khan medical college for medicine and graduated in 1991. He had the distinguished honor of scoring in the top 1 percentile for both parts of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). Dr. Chaudhry is fluent in English, Urdu and Punjabi.[5]

He completed his Medical School, in M.B, B.S (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) by the Aga Khan medical college , in 1986-1991

He completed his college and Higher School Certificate from,Adamjee Government Science College, Karachi, Pakistan, in 1983-1985

Dr. Nauman Chaudhry did his pre residency fellowship in retina and Vitreous by the Dept. of Ophthalmology and Visual Science of Yale University School of Medicine in 1992-1993.[6]

Career[edit]

Dr. Chaudhry is a vitreo-retinal Surgeon, completing his residency at the Yale Eye Center in New Haven, where he served as chief resident. He completed a second residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, where he also finished his medical and surgical retina fellowship.[7]

He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and serves as an examiner. He is also a scientific reviewer for the prestigious Archives of Ophthalmology and Retina.

Dr. Chaudhry is a clinical Assistant professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT.[8]

He worked as an Assistant director at New England retina research foundation, Hamden, in 2000-2015 and as the director of Retina Team for Central sight intraocular telescopic, program for CT and western MA.[9]

Dr. Chaudhry is currently a principal investigator in several pioneering national clinical trials for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, vein occlusions, and diabetic macular edema.[10] He is the only principal clinical investigator in Connecticut invited to participate in all enrolled phase 3 clinical trials of the new FDA-approved drug Eylea®, which is now a frontline treatment for wet Macular degeneration, with potential use for other blinding Retina conditions.[11]

Dr. Chaudhry has authored over 90 papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed ophthalmology literature. [12] His research includes topics in Age-Related Macular Degeneration,diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, macular holes,ocular trauma, endophthalmitis and other ocular complications.[13] He has presented at numerous annual meetings for the American Academy of Ophthalmology,Society for Neuroscience, and the Association for Researching Vision and Ophthalmology.

Awards[edit]

Dr. Chaudhry, has been awarded the Honors in Ophthalmology,[14]Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pathology in 1989-1990.

He has been awarded, Begum Shafiqa Zia-ul-Haq Scholarship for academic excellence in 1990-1999.

He has been awarded, North American Elective Scholarship for Outstanding scholastic achievements in 1991.

He has also been awarded, Marvin Sears’ Award for Excellence in Clinical Ophthalmology in 1996.[15]

He has been awarded, Honor Award, American Society of Retina Specialists in 2010.[16] [17]
