Ovarian Cancer Australia is an independent not-for-profit charity that raises awareness and provides support for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Australia. It also runs campaigns aimed at influencing public policy.[1]. The organization is funded through government grants[2], donations, legacies, community fundraising, events, retail and corporate partnerships. In February 2020, Ovarian Cancer Australia secured over $35 million in government funding from the Australian government to progress the Ovarian Cancer National Action Plan, including the national ovarian cancer clinical quality registry[3].
History
Formed in 2001 as the National Ovarian Cancer Network (OvCa) and renamed Ovarian Cancer Australia in 2008[4], the charity was founded by those directly affected by ovarian cancer who wanted to raise awareness of the disease and support those who had been affected. This group included Nicole Livingstone OAM and her sister Karen Livingstone AM who lost their mother and aunt to the disease; Simon Lee, whose wife Sheila had been the first Australian ovarian cancer campaigner prior to her death in 2001 and comedian and actress Lynda Gibson.

Notable ambassadors include Monique Wright (Australian journalist and television presenter), Nicky Buckley (Australian television presenter and model), Cameron Smith (former Australian professional rugby league footballer), Sarah Hanson-Young (Australian politician) and Karen Martini (Australian chef, restaurateur, writer and television presenter).
Charitable Activities & Corporate Partnerships
Teal Ribbon Giving Day is an annual event held during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month to raise funds for the Ovarian Cancer Australia Helpline and dedicated ovarian cancer nurses. Notable brand partners include Hanes Australasia, Terry White Chemmart, and donor sponsor Dry July[5]
