Papua New Guinea–Turkey relations are the foreign relations between Papua New Guinea and Turkey. The Turkish ambassador in Canberra, Australia is also accredited to Papua New Guinea since May 30, 1979.[1] Papua New Guinea has an honorary consulate in Istanbul.[1]

Diplomatic Relations[edit]

Turkey and Papua New Guinea have friendly relations.[2] Turkey has supported Papua New Guinea’s commitment to a universalist foreign policy.[3] Turkey also contributed diplomatically to find a diplomatic solution to Papua New Guinea’s conflict with Indonesia, which stemmed from the existence of Organisasi Papua Merdeka, a Melanesian guerrilla organization, on the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya on Papua New Guinea's western border.[4]

Through TIKA, Turkey has also contributed to building school[1] and hospitals in Papua New Guinea, which could only cater to less than 60%[5] of children between the age of seven and 12 in the 1990s.[6]
