On February 6, 2021, a Pakistani teenager Dananeer Mobeen uploaded a 5 second video of her trip in northern Pakistan. The video instantly went viral in Pakistan, India, and internationally, spawning many related cultural phenomena. The catchphrase in the video Pawri Ho Rahi Hai (meaning "a party is taking place") has become a neologism.[citation needed] The video has also been credited for bringing together netizens of India and Pakistan,[1] despite the countries' traditional rivalry. The phrase was also popularized in a music video by Indian music composer Yashraj Mukhate.[2] After the success of the original viral clip, the neologism got widely and variously adapted in diverse social and political segments as a quick quip and humorous mode of expression circulated in media and social media.[3] Various prominent Pakistani and Indian news media listed Pawri Ho Rahi Hai as one of top influential social media event of year 2021.[2]

In February 2021, a 19-year-old girl Dananeer Mubeen (also spelled Dananeer Mobeen, Urdu: دنانیر مبین) of Islamabad uploaded a video of her trip to Nathia Gali with her friends. The video humorously mocked "burger people", a slang in Pakistan for people who are perceived to emulate Western culture,[4] and saying "Yeh hamari car hai, aur yeh hum hein aur yeh hamari pawri ho rai hai!" (This is our car, and these are us and this is our party taking place!).[5] The video went viral on social media and started a meme trend by people and celebrities joining the bandwagon by making videos.[6] The video also became viral in neighbouring India after Yashraj Mukhate's composition, and in both the countries different hashtags #PawriHoRaiHai #PawriHoRahiHai #PawriHoriHai trended on Twitter with people, celebrities, brands and organizations posted following the trend.[7]

Dananeer Mobeen[edit]

Mobeen was born on 27 December 2001 in Islamabad,[16] Pakistan. She started her early education in islamabad and later completed her school from Peshawar, Pakistan.[17] She is currently completing her graduation in Peshawar.[18][19][20][21]

Mobeen was born into a well-settled army Islamic family[22] who believes in Islamic culture and prays to Allah by going to the mosque.[23] Dananeer Mobeen’s father’s name is Mobeen Ahmed who is an army officer and her mother’s name is Gul Mobeen who is a chef by profession.[24][25]

Apart from her parents in her family, Dananeer has an elder sister named Nafayal Mobeen.[26] Dananeer also has an older brother named Muhammad Nofal. [27][28]

While coincidentally early March 2021 saw some cooling down of decades-old border tensions between India and Pakistan, the social media clip 'Pawri Ho Rahi Hai' led to a rare light-hearted cultural exchange across the border.[29][30][31]

Political usage of the catch phrase[edit]

Various political leaders from Indian political spectrum used the catch phrase to put forward their points and mock their respective political opponents. Aam Admi Party said from its Instagram account, "Ye hum hai, ye humara school hai, ye humari kranti ho rahi hai (This is us, this is our school and this is our revolution)" to publicize their focus on education and ask for voters' support.[32] During ongoing state assembly election campaigns in February 2021, Trinamul Congress a political party prominent in West Bengal, mocked political opponents with pictures of empty chairs claimed to be in BJP public gatherings with caption, "Yeh @BJP4Bengal hai. Yeh unki jansabha hai. Aur yahaan inki pawri ho rahi hai!" (This is @BJP4Bengal. This is their public gathering, And here their party is taking place); BJP president JP Nadda responded back from his public gathering saying, "Ye Bengal ki prabuddh janta hai, ye hum sab hai, aur Bengal mein parivartan ki tayyari ho rahi hai (These are the intelligent people of Bengal, this is we and Bengal is ready for a change)."[32]
