Ritesh Malik (born June 14, 1989) is a medical graduate who turned into an investor and an entrepreneur. He is best known as the founder of Innov8 Coworking[1][2][3][4], a firm that was acquired by the Softbank-backed OYO (100 per cent stakes) at $ 31.84 million in 2019.[4][5][6] Ever since he founded Innov8 in 2015, Malik has been its Chief Executive Officer, a role that he continues to play till date.[7][8]
In 2013, he had founded Project Guerrilla, an angel investment venture that he continues to run till date.[4] Through this venture, Malik has invested in more than 50 start-ups, including Josh Talks[9], Akancha Against Harassment[10], Leverage Edu[11], Dockabl[12], Pepper,[13][14] Addodoc.[15] [16]
Early life and business career[edit]
Malik was born in New Delhi, India, on June 14, 1989. He attended Theni Government Medical College at Theni, Tamil Nadu and graduated as a medical doctor in 2012. He did a short-term marketing course from the London School of Economics in 2010.[5][17] He worked as a medical House Surgeon at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi from 2012 to 2013. He had also co-founded Adstuck Consulting in 2012, where he continued to work before he founded Innov8.[5][15]
Project Guerrilla[edit]
In 2013, Ritesh started an angel investment and funding venture by the name of Project Guerrilla, that went on to fund 41 start ups in a span of around six years.[4][15][16]
Innov8[edit]
In October 2015, Ritesh started a co-working platform and space provider by the name of Innov8 Coworking, a Y-Combinator company headquartered in Gurugram, India.[1][2][3][15] Additionally, the firm got backed by Google India’s Rajan Anandan, and Paytm’s Vijay Shekhar Sharma.[17]
Innov8 under OYO[edit]
In March 2019, Innov8 was acquired by OYO in an all-cash deal, with founder Ritesh Malik and other investors of Innov8 exiting as a part of the buyout.[4][6][8][18] Ritesh, however, continues to work as the Chief Executive Officer of Innov8 under OYO.[7][19]
