Sportsflashes is an online platform for sports content, commentary, news and trending updates. It is headquartered in New Delhi, India. It covers almost every sport like Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Hockey, Wrestling, Badminton, Table Tennis, Weightlifting, Archery, Boxing, F1, Motorsports, Cycling, Cue Sports, Basketball, Golf, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball, etc. It was launched in 2016.[1] It is owned by India Sports Flashes Pvt. Ltd.[2] It has also launched the first 24x7 sports radio channel of India.[3] Sportsflashes acquired the broadcasting rights for English Premier League from 2018 to 2022.[4][5]
History
Established in 2016 at New Delhi, Sportsflashes broadcasts Live Commentary and contributes frequent news reports & updates about various sports across the world. Aiming to create a democratic sporting environment that reaches all major regions of the globe, it has built several strategic sub-platforms concentrating on all major sports and serving around a million users across the globe through website and mobile apps.
Era of digital radio
Sports Flashes launched India's first all-sports digital radio channel in January 2018, and a Bengali version at the end of the year. The channel expects to reach some 700 million people in India who have interest in sports.[6] Its English-Hindi programming consists of a mix of live commentaries, news updates, talk shows, documentaries, sports trivia, and some so-called "sportainment" content. Because it does not have a typical daily/weekly schedule, live event broadcasts (including pre- and post-match analysis) could be flexibly scheduled, unlike other sports radio stations which have to pre-empt parts/all of a programme in order to provide these broadcasts.
Notable milestones
August 2018: Acquired broadcasting rights for English Premier League from 2018 to 2022.[4][5]
September 2018: Partnered with Amazon India to broadcast live commentary of English Premier League on Alexa.[7]
Sports Flashes acquired ICC cricket world cup 2019 digital audio feed rights from Channel 2 group[8]. Sports flashes plea in Delhi High court against Prasar Bharati, national radio governing body of India, to accept its audio commentary feed for ICC Men's world cup 2019. However, the court has given judgement in favour of Prasar Bharati not being liable to accept audio feed from Sports Flashes.[9] No audio commentary was broadcast by Prasar Bharati for ICC Men's world cup 2019 in India.[10] ICC has given audio rights to Channel 2 Group[11] and has withdrawn audio rights worldwide from channel 2 who has sub-licenced rights to sportsflashes.[12] [13]
