Sri Sathya Sai Vidyapeeth is an educational institution that occupies an area of 90 acres named "Sri Sailam", which is bounded by the Arabian sea on three sides. This property at Katalur, Calicut District was gifted to Sri Sathya Sai Baba by Smt. Rohini Prabhu (wife of late Sri. K.B.Prabhu). Students from around India study in this institution.[citation needed] Bhaghawan Baba laid the foundation stone for the school on 30 May 1976 and inaugurated the campus. It started functioning on 16 August 1976 with 11 students enrolled in Grade 1. To begin with, it was a resident / day scholar school. The administration of Vidyapeeth is managed by Sri Sathya Sai Trust, Kerala State.[citation needed]
