The Government of Odisha has implemented supplementary nutrition program under ICDS scheme for enhancing nutrition to all children below 6 years of age,pregnant and lactating women who have enrolled in Anganwadi center, the foremost purpose of the program is to eliminate malnutrition of children under six and severely underweight (6 months to 3 years) by replacing poor diet with nutrient rich foods and food supplements..[1]it also focused on quality nutrition of pregnant and lactating women by providing them with adequate dietary supplements,ready to eat (RTE) wheat based chatua, protein in form of take home ration (THR) for pregnant women,supplementary Nutrition Program(SNP) is one of the services of ICDS . *Odisha government taken decision to decentralized procurement under ICDS and feeding programmes of women & child development department throughout the state[2] *SNP composed of two comprehensive integrates[2]

- Hot cooked meals[2] children under six and adolescent girls respectively it also comprises of weighing and growth examining of children and advocating of mothers.[3].state government has extended the malnutrition program to all 30 districts of odisha,it also provide emergency feeding program for old needy and feeble person,also manage to cover orphans ,disabled,children of indigent family,children of labourer and other unfortified children[2]. currently 136 creche centers are operating and another 3629 Anganwadi -centers-cum creche centers are approached to be frame-up. [4].*The emergency feeding program in Anganwadi center of hot cooked meals runs in 8 [KBK] districts[2]

Background[edit]
According to the Global Nutrition Report in india 38% under five children are affected by stunting and malnutrition,21% children are under weight for their height,51% of adult women are suffering from anemia.[6]In odisha as per 2011 census population of children is 50.35 lakhs and atleast 8.39 lakhs i.e 22.17% children are malnourished[7] Almost 35% of total under five child population is under weight in state.45% (0-5yrs)children suffering from anemia.[8].There has been reduction in percentage of stunting among children under five from 45% in 2005-2006 to 38% in 2013-2014 due to several initiatives based on health,sanitation,nutrition and food security,increase in use of ICSD and health services by people.[9],poverty illiteracy and backwardness are primary reasons [10],Anemia is another concern at least 67% and 62% female babies and women are affected by anemia in the state respectively,percentage of infant mortality is higher in odisha 51 babies died against 1000 births,The mortality rate is too higher in odisha due to anemia and malnutrition.[10]
