This article is about the novel, The Beginning Of The End

The Beginning Of The End[1] is a YA, post-apocalyptic novel set in purgatory. It is the first of a three-part series that follows the story of Søren, Caelian, and Esther as they travel through a ruined Italy to escape the dying planet.

The novel explores the concept of what the world would be like if it were one by one religious power; the Catholic Church. With no government or structured power, the Catholic Church controls the narrative of the rules society needs to follow in order to escape purgatory.

Plot[edit]

Søren and his brother Caelian go on the run after one of them commits an act of sin that will doom them if they aren't forgiven.

Their only hope is to travel through lawless territory to reach the Church which can help them escape purgatory, but when they arrive they are faced with a decision that will impact the rest of their lives.

They must embark on a journey with Esther, escaping from her own turmoil as she turns her back on the Church to save the life of her child.

Each race from a dooming certainty of losing their souls if they don't make it to the gates before their pasts catch up to them.

Characters[edit]

  • Esther: One of fourteen Holy Children living in Vatican City
  • Caelian: A poor boy who was outcast thanks to his sinful father
  • Søren: Caelian's half-brother who he'd do anything to protect

Setting[edit]

The story takes place in a ruined Italy dealing with the aftermath of the destruction of the end of the world. The story has three main locations, The Accona Desert, Vatican City, and the wild lands of Rome.
