TheLeaflet.in commonly referred to as The Leaflet, is an Indian English language website that publishes legal news articles and digital media content such as analytical and distinguished opinion pieces.[1][self-published source] It was founded by Indira Jaising and Anand Grover in 2018. Ramesh Menon is its current editor-in-chief. The Leaflet's tagline is 'Constitution First'.[2][self-published source]

History[edit]

In 2018, Indira Jaising and Anand Grover launched The Leaflet as an imprint of their NGO, Lawyers Collective[3][self-published source] with the intention to fill the void in the area of mainstream legal opinion and create a platform for cutting-edge legal, political and constitutional opinion, in a political climate resulting in the systematic undermining of rule of law.[4][self-published source]

Organisation[edit]

Staff[edit]

The Leaflet's staff are segregated into three divisions; the editorial team, the business team and the compliance team. The editorial team comprises the editor-in-chief, Ramesh Menon and a team of seasoned junior editors and copy editors. Apart from being co-founders of The Leaflet, Jaising and Grover also serve as The Leaflet's consulting editors. Journalist and lawyer Ashish Khetan serves as a contributing editor.

Amongst the board of directors of the company responsible for the functioning of The Leaflet is Ritu Dewan, the first-ever woman Director of the Department of Economics, University of Mumbai, and the founder-member of the first Centre of Gender Economics.[5] Human rights activist Dr. Roshmi Goswami also serves as a board member.[6]

It has also regularly covered the aftermath of the 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence when several activists were arrested by the Maharashtra Police in connection with violence that erupted at an annual celebratory gathering held on 1 January 2018, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon.
