Touchdown Buffalo is the fourth studio album from the American rock band Sink Tapes.
Content
The eleven-track album was released digitally on 6 May 2014 with Mint 400 Records, and on cassette tape with Fourth Row Records.[1] It was produced by Sink Tapes, and mastered by Clearcut Recordings. Touchdown Buffalo is described as jangly indie pop with synthetic, driving drums, acoustic guitars and gnarled, droning keys.[1][2] It draws comparison to the music of the shoegaze and alternative rock band the Jesus and Mary Chain, and the post-punk band the Psychedelic Furs.[3] The track "What Wants, What Needs" was rerecorded for the album Window Unit Blues.
In a 2016 interview with The Daily Progress, Gabe Chiarello explains that Touchdown Buffalo was "less of a full-band effort and more of just dealing with what we had at the moment," and the songs were demos that "we'd use in a live set and then change [them]."[2]
Reception
A review by Sarah Deneault for Speak Into My Good Eye says "after listening to the first six tracks off of Touchdown Buffalo, I felt like I was transported to the dance floor of any 1980's movie with a prom scene; the vocals are quite airy, and in the tone of a lullaby, ultimately generating a different atmosphere than the band's first recorded album Same Strange Dream." The piece ends with "I was ready to accept Touchdown Buffalo as the band’s chilled-out, 2014 indie interpretation of how Frankie really says relax, but perhaps these guys are trying to say more... like that they're Buffalo Bills fans."[4]
