Kim Yugyeom (Hangul: 김유겸; born November 17, 1997).[1] professionally known by the mononym Yugyeom (Hangul: 유겸), is a South Korean dancer, singer, songwriter, and producer. He's the main dancer and sub-vocalist of South Korean boy band Got7 and leader of the sub-unit, Jus2.
Biography[edit]
Yugyeom was born in Seoul, South Korea but grew up in Saudi Arabia. In the seventh grade, he was already enrolled in a dance school, which opened up new opportunities such as being able to audition for JYP Entertainment.
Career[edit]
2013–2014: Debut and career beginnings[edit]
In 2013, Yugyeom made his first pre-debut appearance on an episode of Mnet's reality-survival program WIN: Who Is Next as JYP Dance Team along with Mark, Jackson, and BamBam[2].
In 2014, he debuted as part of a seven-member boy band called GOT7.
2015–present: Solo activities[edit]
In 2016, Yugyeom joined Mnet's Hit the Stage, a dance survival contest. He performed in episodes 9[3] and 10, he placed first in the final episode won the competition[4]
On March 4, 2017 he released his first solo track on Soundcloud called "그대로 (The way you are)". He continued to release more music in the same year, dropping three more tracks throughout the rest of the year and then compiling the four tracks into his first mixtape, dandelion, on January 1, 2018.
It was revealed[5] on September 13, 2018 that Yugyeom was a part of a project by Dispatch Korea called "Main Dancers", where he participated in a series of photoshoots, livestreaming events and a dance video.
On October 19, 2018 it was announced that he would be be participating in the survival show "Law of the Jungle", where he would go to the Northern Mariana Islands. His episodes aired in February of 2019. During the show he suffered a minor injury, but was praised for his positive attitude and hard work despite the pain.[6]
On March 5, 2019, Yugyeom and his group-mate JB debuted in a sub-unit called Jus2, with their EP Focus and it's lead single "Focus On Me".[7][8]
In 2019 he dropped two more songs on his Soundcloud, "Just A Little More" and "YOU".
He had his first solo magazine photoshoot with MAPS for their February 2020 issue, and it was also his first solo magazine cover.
On May 6, 2020 he released a mini EP (with no name) on Soundcloud, which contained three songs that were all produced by him. In the same year he dropped another mini EP called Happiness and Gratitude, which had two songs.
Yugyeom was a contestant on the singing competition King of Mask Singer on May 31, 2020. He didn't make it to the second round of the competition, coming very close to winning in the first round.
On January 19, 2021 his exclusive contract with JYPE ended.
