Early life[edit]

Bashir was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan, where he attended the Karachi American School and later went on to earn a bachelor's degree in entrepreneurial studies from Babson College in the United States. Bashir's family is known as the first family of textiles in Pakistan. Gul Ahmed Textiles, which was founded by his grandfather Haji Ali Mohammad, is a leading Pakistani fashion brand.

Career[edit]

Bashir graduated from college and moved back to Pakistan where he revolutionized the retail fabric industry. As a Director at Gul Ahmed, Bashir introduced female workers in the stitching factories and under him the stitching unit expanded 10 fold. In 2003, he launched IDEAS, a lifestyles outlet store in Karachi. The store revolutionized the way home textiles and fabrics were sold in the country. The unique advertising campaigns featuring the top models of Pakistan made the brand grow in popularity and by 2014, IDEAS had spread to over 13 cities boasting over 45 retail outlets.

Being an entrepreneur, Bashir founded ArwenTech, a leading tech company in Pakistan and in 2007, ArwenTech created a dashboard for the Mayor of Karachi to view all his departments and to see the service levels they were operating upon. There were 3 ways that citizens could register a complaint, through telephone, web and walk ins to complaint centers. The complainants would receive a number through which they could track their complaints. A drill down graphics system, changed the way the local government interacted with the citizens of Pakistan's largest city, Karachi.
