In February 1949 165th Army Division(Chinese: 陆军第165师) (2nd formation) was activated from the 2nd Training Division of Northeastern Military Region. The division was under direct control by the Fourth Field Army, composing 493rd, 494th, and 495th Regiments.
In May 1949, the division was transferred to Hubei Military District's control.
In November 1949, the division moved to Chenzhou, Hubei and merged with Chen County Military Sub-district.
