The 66th Division (Chinese: 第66师)(2nd Formation) was created in February 1951 from separated regiments within the Zhejiang Military District from the disbanding 35th Corps:
- Its 196th Regiment was reconstituted from the 312th Regiment, former 104th Division;
- Its 197th Regiment was reconstituted from the 314th Regiment, former 105th Division;
- Its 198th Regiment was reconstituted from the 308th Regiment, former 103rd Division.
The division was a part of the 22nd Corps.
In April 1953, the 346th Artillery Regiment was activated and attached to the division.
In April 1958, the 22nd Corps was reconstituted as the Zhousheng Fortress District (Chinese: 舟嵊要塞区). The 66th Division simultaneously converted into the Putuo Garrison District (Chinese: 普陀守备区).
In 1981, the garrison district was reactivated as the 6th Garrison Division of Nanjing Military Region(Chinese: 南京军区守备第6师).
In September 1985, the division was reduced and redesignated as the 6th Garrison Brigade of Nanjing Military Region(Chinese: 南京军区守备第6旅).
In 1992, the brigade was reconstituted as the 6th Coastal Defense Brigade(Chinese: 海防第6旅).
In 1997, the brigade was disbanded.
