Search Bitcoin 2 on Amazon.Bitcoin 2 (BTC2) is a hard fork of the original Bitcoin, created and maintained by core developers Jackles and Hiromono. It is one of many cryptocurrencies. The official website is bitc2.org and the code is available open source on GitHub.
All Bitcoin holders as of block 507850 (~February 5, 2018) are also owners of BTC2 on a 1 for 1 basis.[1] Because Bitcoin2 is a fork of Bitcoin, the maximum coin supply is 21,000,000. New coins are generated at a rate of 0.8 BTC2 per block, and are rewarded for running masternodes and for staking coins in the Bitcoin 2 Core wallet.
Why Bitcoin 2 was created
Sending the old Bitcoins can sometimes be more expensive than wire transfers and slow compared to other cryptocurrencies. The transactions are also trackable. With all the fighting about what to implement going on, major improvements to Bitcoin come slowly if at all. Thus Bitcoin 2 had to be born. Bitcoin 2 solves those problems and is also fast enough to be accepted as a payment method by retail shops and grocery stores due to the SwiftTX feature.

Features
Bitcoin 2 is the only Bitcoin fork to combine all of:
- Proof of Stake block mining algorithm
- Private transactions using the Zerocoin protocol
- A masternode reward system and coin staking.
It verifies transactions around 40 times faster than Bitcoin. It has a fully working desktop wallet for Mac, Linux and Windows, and a mobile wallet is planned.[2]
History
Bitcoin 2 has, since early 2018, been a little known project, but it sparked major interest on June 6th, 2019, a few days after being listed on CoinMarketCap, when its value suddenly grew from $1.7 USD to over $29 USD within 3 hours. During this huge price spike of 1700%, it listed among the top 50 coins on CoinMarketCap. During this time it had a market cap of around $65 million USD. This irregular price action has caused a number of finance- and cryptocurrency publications to call it out as a scam[3][4][5], but very few arguments have been made against the project based on technical reasons. The core developers say they were caught off guard by this surge in price, as they had not expected such a massive interest shortly after trading started.[6]
