The chromecast PC is a stick PC running Google's PCTV android TV 13 skin. It is a successor to the Chromebit that was released in 2015. It is able to be plugged into any display via HDMI to act as a personal computer. A special remote is able to be connected over Bluetooth. The device was announced in December 2022 and is going to start shipping June 2023.
Functionality[edit]
A chromecast PC uses a display with an HDMI port to control a desktop variant of the chromecast with Google TV smart TV device , which runs Google's android TV operating system with the google TV android TV skin. Android TV primarily supports a single type of application, streaming services , thereby relying heavily on an Internet connection for software functionality and data storage but PCTV changes that to add the Chrome browser, raw APK files, JAR files, and support for all Android apps.
Chromecast PCs have a superficial resemblance to the Chromecast, another Google device. But whereas the Chromecast is designed to display multimedia and web content from an Android or Chrome OS device on a television or other large-screen display, the chromecast PC is a self-contained personal computer with the ability to display multimedia and web content from an Android or Chrome OS device in a mode called Chromecast mode .
Technology[edit]
Internally, the first chromecast PC resembles a a mix between Chrome OS and Android TV . The device features mmwave 5G and Bluetooth 5.3, as well as a USB 4.0 port at one end. The other end swivels, enabling it to fit into a variety of HDMI slots. The chromecast PC has a total RAM capacity of 12 gigabytes and 250 gigabytes of eMMC memory and microSDXC cards with a Max size of 256GB can be used to extend usable storage.
