David John Jeffery (born 1977 in Southampton, England) is a British writer, film director, producer and screenwriter. His work has frequently explored Christian themes, speculative fiction, science fiction, artificial intelligence, technology, faith and social control.
Jeffery is the author of several books, including God Tech: Mark of the Beast, God Tech: Jerusalem, Sunset Poems and One Thousand Years. He later adapted concepts from his God Tech writing into the feature film G.O.D.TECH, which he wrote, directed and produced.
Early life and writing career
From 1994 to 2010, Jeffery wrote Christian fiction and worked as a youth worker in Europe.[1]
His early writing focused on Christian faith, biblical themes and speculative interpretations of the future.
In 2008, he published the poetry collection Sunset Poems through Lulu.
In 2010, Onwards and Upwards Publishers published his science-fiction novel God Tech: Mark of the Beast. The novel combined Christian themes with ideas surrounding technology, global political control and the biblical concept of the Mark of the Beast.
The book later became the foundation for Jeffery's development of the film project G.O.D.TECH.
Jeffery subsequently published God Tech: Jerusalem and One Thousand Years through Lulu in 2015.
Screenwriting
From 2012, Jeffery began concentrating increasingly on screenwriting.[2]
His early screenplay projects included Outline, Kronosis and G.O.D.TECH.
His screenwriting frequently incorporates science-fiction concepts alongside themes of religion, morality, identity, political power and technological development.
Film career
Jeffery began directing and producing independent film projects during the early 2010s.
Among his early films were Outline (2012), created in connection with the Sci-Fi-London film festival, Optical Illusion (2013), and Social Reboot (2014), which was produced for the MCM London Comic Con.
Jeffery has worked in a variety of filmmaking roles including directing, producing, screenwriting, editing and production management.
He later founded and operated Invisible Sword Productions Ltd, through which he developed a number of independent film and television projects.
His later work increasingly concentrated on feature-film production and international distribution.
G.O.D.TECH
Jeffery wrote, directed and produced the science-fiction feature film G.O.D.TECH, based in part on ideas developed in his earlier novel God Tech: Mark of the Beast.
The film stars Eric Roberts as the Angel of the Messiah and features an international cast including Jama Dandy, Jessica Shuey, Kent Goldfinch, Bella Cai, Nicole McClean, Abid Shamim PM, Dani Raza, Gabriela Dubiago and Lamin Tamba.
The feature was filmed using ARRI Alexa cameras and completed with a Dolby Atmos sound mix.
The film received international screenings and festival recognition during 2025 and 2026.
In May 2026, G.O.D.TECH was screened at the Cannes market at Cineum Cannes. A London screening followed in July 2026.
The film also received awards, nominations and selections at several international film festivals.
Its international distribution was subsequently handled by Porter & Craig Film and Media Distribution.
Plot
In a dystopian near future, humanity has surrendered much of its freedom to a new global government known as the World Parliament. Its supreme leader, Piotr Jan, presents himself as a messianic visionary and introduces G.O.D.TECH—short for Genetics on Digital Technology—a system that merges human genetics with artificial intelligence.
The technology promises a form of "digital salvation", allowing human consciousness to be uploaded into a synthetic version of Heaven.
Piotr Jan's devoted servant, known as the Angel of the Messiah, promotes the system through broadcasts combining religious language with political obedience. Those who refuse the required implant, known as the "unmarked", are treated as enemies of the new world order.
Mary and Matthew Corby are a Christian couple attempting to live outside the system. Their lives are disrupted when government forces raid their home and abduct their daughter, Gemma. They are subsequently drawn into an underground resistance opposed to G.O.D.TECH.
Their friends Thomas and Alice, who have also suffered losses under the regime, become involved with a resistance movement led by Pastor Elikai. Elikai secretly distributes banned Bibles disguised as electronic books while helping believers evade government surveillance.
Meanwhile, Lydia Nadine, an operative working for Piotr Jan, combines advanced science with occult practices while developing methods of controlling human consciousness.
She becomes involved in the government's secret Heaven Project, which publicly promises technological immortality but is in reality being used to create obedient citizens through cloning, psychological conditioning and manipulation of the human mind.
Thomas and Alice are eventually captured and taken to the Heaven Project facility. Captives inside the facility are subjected to conditioning intended to convince them that submission to the system represents salvation.
Alice gradually becomes convinced that she has been chosen, while Thomas meets Nicky, a rebellious worker who reveals that the implants are designed to suppress free will and permanently control their recipients.
After becoming separated from Matthew, Mary seeks refuge in a church operated by Pastor Carolyn. Carolyn initially appears sympathetic to persecuted Christians, but Mary later discovers that she is an android created by G.O.D.TECH to attract and neutralise believers who remain outside the system.
Matthew, meanwhile, becomes increasingly vulnerable to Lydia's influence.
As Mary and Matthew struggle with fear, temptation and doubt, the film explores the meaning of faith and human identity in a society where consciousness itself can be digitally manipulated.
The surviving resistance members ultimately attempt to destroy the Heaven Project facility and expose Piotr Jan's deception.
As the conflict between the resistance and G.O.D.TECH escalates, the distinction between biological humanity and artificial intelligence becomes increasingly uncertain.
The film concludes with faith and free will being presented as elements of human identity that cannot be completely replicated or controlled by technology.
Themes
G.O.D.TECH combines dystopian science fiction with Christian and philosophical themes.
The film explores artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, technological immortality, political authoritarianism, surveillance, manipulation of consciousness and religious faith.
A central theme is the conflict between spiritual salvation and the concept of salvation being manufactured through technology.
The story also examines the consequences of technological advancement when it becomes connected with political power and the suppression of individual freedom.
G.O.D.TECH sequels
Following completion of the first film, Jeffery began developing further entries in the G.O.D.TECH series.
The second film, G.O.D.TECH 2: Battlefield of the Mind, continues the story through themes including artificial intelligence, neural manipulation, mind control and resistance to technological authoritarianism.
A third film, G.O.D.TECH 3: The Great Delusion, was subsequently developed as a continuation of the wider storyline.
Jeffery has also developed an animated adaptation of the G.O.D.TECH franchise.
Other film and television projects
In addition to G.O.D.TECH, Jeffery has developed a number of other independent film and television projects.
These include the science-fiction romantic drama 8V40, the alternate-history television series Unchained Legacy, and the supernatural feature The River Does Not Bury Its Dead.
Unchained Legacy is an alternate-history drama examining a radically different development of North America in which Native American and tribal cultures become the dominant social and political influence.
The River Does Not Bury Its Dead is a supernatural drama set in New Orleans and incorporates historical, spiritual and folkloric elements.
Jeffery has also worked on feature and short-film projects including Belt Boy, Skullhunter, Blink Time, Isabella, Poison and other independent productions.
