Background[edit]

On 3 February 2018, British YouTubers KSI (brother of Deji Olatunji) and Joe Weller took part in an amateur boxing event at Copper Box Arena, London, England. After winning by TKO, KSI called out American YouTubers Logan Paul and Jake Paul. However, after weeks of back-and-forth videos on YouTube, seemingly resulting in a stalemate, KSI uploaded a video to his YouTube channel reacting to other potential opponents who had called him out,[4] including Alex Wassabi, and ultimately put the decision to the fans via a poll. After receiving the least votes of the 6 potential opponents,[5] Wassabi went on to call out multiple other YouTubers[6] to an undercard fight however he did not manage to secure one in time for the event on 25 August 2022.

Deji fought Jake Paul as the co-main event of KSI vs Logan Paul on 25 August 2018 and was defeated via TKO in the fifth round. He made his boxing comeback three years later on 12 June 2021 on the YouTubers vs. TikTokers event against TikToker Vinnie Hacker, suffering a second consecutive defeat by way of TKO, this time in the third round. After the fight, Deji announced that he would temporarily step away from social media to work on himself, his fitness and his boxing abilities.[7] Six months later, it was announced that he would fight Alex Wassabi as the main event of boxing promotion company Showstar Boxing's inaugural event, UK vs USA.[8]

Card[edit]

Showstar Boxing gradually announced the card for the event via posts on their social media platforms between 12 January 2022 and 4 February when the full initial card was announced.[9] The main event and co-main event were Deji vs Alex Wassabi and King Kenny vs FaZe Temperrr and the undercard included; Kristen Hanby vs Vitaly, Armz Korleone vs Minikon, Ryan Taylor vs DK Money and Ashley Cain vs Andreas Eskander. Also on that day, preliminary fights, Salt Papi vs Halal Ham[10] and Stromedy vs Austin Sprinz[11] were announced.

One month later, and a day before the event, on 4 March 2022, Jay Cucciniello vs Anthony Taylor[12] was added to the main card to replace Ashley Cain vs Andreas Eskander after Eskander pulled out earlier that week.[13]
