Euro-Ukrainian alphabet

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Euro-Ukrainian is a proposed Ukrainian Latin alphabet. Often it is associated with the Latynka.

Description[edit]

The Latynka alphabet is not officially used. Only in other countries do diaspora Ukrainians use the Latin script. Some young Ukrainians who do not read nor write using the Cyrillic script, due to never having learned it, use a version of the Latynka to write, but only for informal purposes. In most cases the official Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet is used in Ukraine and abroad, though there has been an increase in the use of some versions of Latynka on the internet.

Euro-Ukrainian is an alternate way of writing in Ukrainian. Euro-Ukrainian does not discourage the use of the Cyrillic script, but rather so that both scripts may be used as they are in Bosnia and many other countries. Euro-Ukrainian can also be used for transliterating Ukrainian names of persons and cities.

According to the Omniglot, this script was proposed by M. Johansen, B. Tkačenko and M. Nakonečnyj in 1927 at a conference in Kharkiv.[1] A document proposing rules of use for this alphabet was uploaded to Omniglot by Maksym Lohoda.[2]
