Farhan Wilayat Butt is a philanthropist, social activist and minority rights activist from Lahore, Pakistan.[1] He constructs water wells and hand pumps on voluntarily basis in order to provide clean drinking water in less-fortunate and underprivileged desert areas of Tharparkar (Sindh)[2] as Tharparkar and many other regions of interior Sindh are facing a drought-like situation due to less water resources and environmental crises. He also raises his voice for the rights and protection of religious minorities and marginalized communities in Pakistan.[3] He conducts interfaith activities (including discussions[4]/ interviews[5]/ meetings[6]/ festivals[7]/ trips[8]/ tours[9]) to reduce misunderstandings between different religious communities.
Awards and honors[edit]
Farhan received Gusi Peace Prize[10] from Manila, Phillipines[11] in recognition of his humanitarian services and SATHA Innovation Award from Triple Helix Association, Italy in 2019 for his water relief projects in Tharparkar.[12]
In 2020, Andy Beshear, the governor of Kentucky acclaimed his humanitarian services and awarded him with the state's highest title of honor, "Kentucky Colonel".[13] In the same year, The Green Organization of United Kingdom also acclaimed his "Sindh Water Relief Project" and awarded him "Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice".[14]
In 2021, he received The Wolf Award from a Canadian non-profit organization (The Wolf Project) on his peace activism and interfaith services.[14] In the same year, International Center for Environmental Arts (ICEA) of Ohio, USA awarded him an honorary doctorate degree of Environmental Arts & Peace Sciences on his water-relief projects (for arrangement of clean drinking water in desert areas in interior Sindh).[15]
