Dr. Giuliana Galli Carminati is the founder and president of the International Society for Multidisciplinary Psychoanalysis SIPsyM (est. 2017).
In 2007 she founded Il Simposietto, a think-tank dedicated to the study of the connectons between quantum physics and the human psyche.
In the same year she founded the European Journal for Intellectual Disability EJID.
In 2005 she founded ASTRAG, the Association for Social and Therapeutic Group analysis (ASTRAG).
Dr. Giuliana Galli Carminati is a (MD PhDs) is a Psychiatrist Psychotherapist FMH, Adjunct Professor in Mental Health and Psychiatry at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Psychoanalyst and Psychotherapist IIPB, Didactician SIPsyM, Former Privat Docent and Senior Lecturer at the University of Geneva, Master in Group Psychoanalytic Therapy, Master (Laurea) in Physics.

Early life[edit]
Giuliana Galli Carminati was born in Verbania, Piemonte, Italy on October 13, 1954. Both her parents were accomplished mountaineers, and from her youngest age she has been used to mountain sports, rock climbing and outdoors. Her father and paternal grandfather were wood sculptors and painters. Her grandfather, Giulio Galli, sculpted church choirs that can be still be seen around Verbania.
After obtaining her high-school diploma in 1973 at the Instituto Santa Maria, she attended the University of Pavia where in 1979 she obtained a Degree (Laurea) in Medicine and Surgery "cum laude" defending the Thesis: "A study of osmolarity and electroneutrality of gastric fluids with Heidenhain pouches in dogs".
During her first year in Pavia she won an internship at the prestigious Collegio Ghislieri boarding institute. These were years of intense activity, both intellectually and socially. Notably she attended the Marilla Rigazio Aero Club where she became a sky-diver.
Following her degree, she won an internship at the Human Physiology Institute of the Pavia University. In 1981 she obtained a Specialization in Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pavia defending the thesis "A test of severe TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) patients: analysis of biological parameters in function of treatment”.

In 1981 she married Federico Carminati and in 1983 they moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where he had obtained a staff position at the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a High Energy Physics researcher to work on a muon decay experiment.
During her stay at Los Alamos Giuliana studied physics. She and Federico had their first child, Maria Vittoria "Giugi" Galli Carminati.
In 1982 Giuliana Galli Carminati moved with her husband to Ferney-Voltaire (France) and then to Veigy-Foncenex (France) following her husband obtaining a position as a Long Term Visiting Scientist at the California Institute of Technology and having been seconded to work at CERN (Geneva, Switzerland). In 1986 their second son, Riccardo Carminati Galli, was born in Pavia, Italy. In 2000 they moved their residence to Meyrin, Switzerland.
In 1988 she started working as a general practitioner in Veigy-Foncenex. In the same year she started her first psychoanalysis, the beginning of a personal psychoanalytic work that still perdures.
In 1990 she was hired by the Geneva University Hospital as a trainee psychiatrist. In 1995 she obtained her Specialization in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy from the University of Geneva and in 1997 from the Swiss Medical Federation. In 1996 she obtained her PhD in Medicine from the University of Geneva with the thesis "A file study: zinc, iron, and transfer in patients suffering from encephalitis, Alzheimer’s and Pick disease."
In 1997 she became certified as a Specialist in Psychiatry in France.
In 1998 she obtained the Italian Degree (Laurea) from the Tor Vergata University in Rome with the thesis "Use of the MEG to study human cerebral activity. Complementarily of the MEG and EEG in the study of spontaneous cerebral activity".
In 2000 she obtained a Master in Group Analytical Psychotherapy (see group analysis), Department of Philosophy and Science of Education, University of Deusto (Bilbao, Spain).
In 2005 she founded ASTRAG (ASsociation pour le TRAvail Groupal thérapeutique et social, association for the therapeutic and social group work).
In 2007 she founded the Simposietto, a think tank on relations between physics and the human spirit. In the same year she founded the European Journal for Intellectual Disability EJID.
From 1999 to 2013 she has been medical director of the Unit of Mental Development Psychiatry UPDM in the department of Adult Psychiatry of the University Hospitals of Geneva.
In 2008 she obtained the title of Privat Docent at the University of Geneva with a thesis "Integrated Treatment of Psychiatric and Behavioral Disorder in adults with Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD)”. In 2011 she was named Chargé de Cours (Senior Lecturer) at the University of Geneva.
In 2013 she left the Geneva University Hospitals and opened two private practices at Geneva and Nyon (Vaud). In 2013 she was named psychoanalyst, full member of the International Institute for Psychoanalysis Charles Baudouin IIPB.
In 2016 she obtained her second PhD in Modelisation and Instrumentation in Medicine and Biology at the Grenoble University (Grenoble) with the thesis “Study of group phenomena as unconscious amplification in a quantum model”...[1].
Since 2014 she is Adjunct Professor in Mental Health & Psychiatry at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Republic of Korea.
In 2017 she received the certification as Pet Therapist from the Association Suisse de Zoothérapie (ASZ, Swiss Pet Therapy Association).
In 2017 she also funded the International Society for Multi-disciplinary Psychoanalysis (Société Internationale de Psychanalyse Multidisciplinaire, SIPsyM).
Research Work[edit]
Giuliana Galli Carminati has published more than 150 articles on international journals out of which 34 on Impact Factor journals. She has presented her work in more than 250 international conferences and events.
Giuliana Galli Carminati started her research activity at the Physiology and Dietetics departments of the University of Pavia where she lead a small research team working on the effects of diet on blood platelets[2][3].
From 2003 to 2013 she was medical director of the Unit of Mental Development Psychiatry (UPDM), Adult Psychiatry, University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG), Switzerland. In this function she directed a number of research activities on the care of people affected by intellectual disability and autism[4][5][6][7][8]. During these years she pioneered group therapy for verbal and non-verbal intellectually disabled patients. For her research in this field, she received the Incentive Award by the P.B.Schneider Foundation for the Development of Medical Psychotherapy with the work "Le groupe sans mots (ou presque)" (“The (almost) worldess group”).
A large part of her activity was devoted to the study and improvement of the quality of life of people with intellectual disability[9][10][11]. She introduced pet therapy for autistic and mentally disabled patients. She also conducted research on the pharmacological treatment of people with ASD spectrum disorders (see for instance[12][13]
She is also the main editor and contributor to several collective books on mental health for the mentally handicapped and ASD spectrum population[14][15][16][17][18][19][20].
In 2002 she participated as editor and contributor to a collective book on the history of High Energy Physics computing and computing grid[21].
Since 2005 she is working with François Martin (senior research scientist) and Federico Carminati (physicist at CERN) in the field of psychophysics, focusing on possible applications of quantum information theory to describe the human psyche. This field of research is rooted in the so-called Pauli-Jung conjecture or Double-aspect theory and in the life long exchange between these two scientists [22]. A large part of these works have been published in peer-reviewed journals[23][24][25][26][27][28] and then collected in a book[29]
Giuliana Galli Carminati has designed and performed a series of experiments in collaboration with the Basque Foundation for Research in Mental Health OMIE on the group phenomena as unconscious amplification (the Absurdum experiment), which results have been published[30][31][32][33]
