"Good Friday" (often stylized as "G.O.O.D. Friday"[1]) is a song by American rap artist Kanye West, which features Common, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Big Sean and Charlie Wilson. The track was released as part of West's 2010 GOOD Fridays program. It was heavily sampled in Logic's 2009 song "Feel Good" - also, vocals from it were used as part of his song "Welcome to Forever" from the very same year, which features Jon Bellion.[2][3]

Composition[edit]

Multiple elements from Freddie Scott's 1968 single "(You) Got What I Need" are sampled throughout the song.[4]

Vocals from 1969 Eddie Bo single "Hook and Sing - Part I" are sampled throughout.[5] "Good Friday" also samples vocals from Doug E. Fresh and MC Ricky D's 1985 single "La Di Da Di" throughout it.[6]

Release[edit]

"Good Friday" was released on September 10, 2010 as the title track of West's GOOD Fridays program for that year.[7] Since it featured some of the prominent members of GOOD Music, the song served its place as a title track for the program.[8]

Critical reception[edit]

HotNewHipHop described "Good Friday" as being: 'a nice addition to the impressive catalogue Kanye West has been building over the years'.[9] The track lived up to its title in the eyes of The FADER, since the website wrote that the song: 'makes it a good Friday indeed'.[10]

When Very Smart Brothas ranked West's 2010 GOOD Fridays releases from best to worst, it was positioned at number 10 out of 15.[11]
