"The Morning" is a song by recording artists Raekwon, Pusha T, Common, 2 Chainz, Cyhi the Prynce, Kid Cudi and D'banj from the 2012 GOOD Music album Cruel Summer, which features uncredited vocals from Kanye West.[1] The song was produced by West, !llmind, Jeff Bhasker and Travis Scott. A remix was released by 2 Chainz titled "G.O.O.D. Morning".

Composition and lyrics[edit]

The song contains elements of 1956 recording Get Me to the Church on Time".[1]

Pusha took to the online site Genius to annotate his lines: "Some claim God body, blame Illuminati/All cause his pockets now knotty as his hair, yeah".[2] The inspiration behind the label and its name was explained by West with the lines: "I treat the label like money from my shows/G.O.O.D. would have been God, but I added more O's".[3]

Critical reception[edit]

The track was listed as an example on the album by Consequence of Sound of when "the songs become too jammed-up with so many moving parts that it sounds like they're actually immobile", but praise was published for Raekwon's verse.[4] Pitchfork described the verses of Raekwon, Common, Pusha, 2 Chainz and Cyhi as being "hurled at you like a handful of action figures".[5]

Commercial performance[edit]

On October 6, 2012, "The Morning" debuted at number 19 on the US Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 and never charted on it again.[6] However, it did manage to enter the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number 49 two weeks later.[7]

2 Chainz remix[edit]

On December 4, 2012, 2 Chainz, one of the lead artists on the song, released a remix of "The Morning" titled "G.O.O.D. Morning".[10] The remix was an extended version of the track by Chainz, which didn't make it as a solo cut for the album.[10] A music video was released for the remix, which consists of cameras following Chainz on his travels across the UK.[11]
