List of modern dictators in Latin America

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

List of modern dictators in Latin America lists modern dictators in Latin America from Napoleon to 2006, as listed in "Encyclopedia of Modern Dictators: From Napoleon to the Present"[1].

While the editor of "Encyclopedia of Modern Dictators" acknowledged the ongoing controversy and debate surrounding dictators and dictatorships, he presented the principle of selection as having the two primary components. A ruler that "(a) discarded normal governmental procedures in his quest for and exerciese of power and (b) employed extralegal means to achieve his ends and/or continue his tenure-however laudable or deplorable his aims and achievements." [1]:xx

Other sources from political science and history literature are also used as supplmentary sources. Readers are advised to look them up as the decision to include some and exclude others might be questioned based on different disciplinary and/or scholarly views.
