This is a list of premiers of Tasmania by age, including when they were born, what age they were when they were appointed premier, what age were they when they left the office and the age at which they died, or their current age as of 22 November 2024 if they are still alive. The table can be sorted by each different category.
The date of appointment as premier is the date on which they were sworn in by the Governor for their first term. The day on which they departed office is the final day of their final term. This is either the day a new premier was appointed or their date of death if they died whilst in office.

Timeline of living premiers[edit]
This is a chronological list of all who served as the Premier of Tasmania and were still living, at different periods in history. There has been only one time period when there was only one living premier, beginning with the appointment of William Champ in November 1856 and ending with the appointment of Thomas Gregson in February 1857.
There has been one time period when 12 living current or former premiers co-existed. This period was from the appointment of William Crowther on 20 December 1878 to the death of James Milne Wilson on 29 February 1880.
If one includes future premiers as well as past and current premiers, there has been only one time period when 26 different premiers co-existed. (see Statistics)

Statistics[edit]
- Because he was the first premier, and the fact that there have been at least two premiers living since the appointment of Thomas Gregson on 26 February 1857, William Champ is the only person to ever hold the distinction of being the only living premier (from 1 November 1856 to 26 February 1857).
- In addition, Thomas Gregson (from 26 February 1857 to 25 April 1857), Walter Lee (from 12 July 1956 to 26 August 1958), Robert Cosgrove (from 12 July 1956 to 26 August 1958 and 1 June 1963 to 26 May 1969), Eric Reece (from 1 June 1963 to 26 May 1969 and 25 August 1969 to 31 March 1975), and Angus Bethune (from 25 August 1969 to 31 March 1975) are the only other persons to have been one of two or less living premiers.
- During one period in the History of Tasmania has there been 12 living premiers. This period was from 20 December 1878 to 29 February 1880 (when William Champ, William Weston, Francis Smith, Thomas Chapman, James Whyte, James Milne Wilson, Frederick Innes, Alfred Kennerley, Thomas Reibey, Philip Fysh, William Giblin, and William Crowther were alive).
- William Champ was the only person to be both one of two or less living premiers (from 1 November 1856 to 25 April 1857) and one of the 12 living premiers (from 20 December 1878 to 29 February 1880).
- There have been 24 administrations during which a premier has not died, the most recent being the administration of Peter Gutwein. This does not include the administration of Richard Dry (who was himself the only premier to die during his administration) nor the administration of the incumbent Jeremy Rockliff as no premier has died since Angus Bethune who died during the administration of Paul Lennon.
- Conversely, only during the administration of Robert Cosgrove has there been as many as five deaths during an administration. Only once (during the administration of William Giblin) has there been as many as four deaths during an administration.
- Robin Gray holds the distinction of serving for the longest period without the death of premier during his term (7 years and 34 days).
- The longest period between deaths of premiers was the 20 years and 76 days between the deaths of Robert Cosgrove on 25 August 1969 and Bill Neilson on 9 November 1989. The shortest period was the 63 days between the deaths of Jim Bacon on 20 June 2004 and Angus Bethune on 22 August 2004.
- If the longest period between deaths is to be exceeded, no premier must die before 6 November 2024 (the current oldest and second oldest surviving premiers, Tony Rundle and Robin Gray, would then be 85 and 84 years old respectively).
- The second longest period is the 20 years, 92 days since the death of Angus Bethune on 22 August 2004.
- Only three times (in 1882, 1939, and 2004) have two premiers died in the same year.
- Following his administration's end in 1857, William Champ lived to see a record 19 administrations prior to his death in August 1892. Thomas Reibey follows with 15 administrations after his own administration ended in 1877, prior to his death in February 1912. In modern times, the premier to have lived to see the most administrations following their own is Doug Lowe, with 12 so far following the end of his administration in 1981.
- If one includes future as well as past and current premiers, the record sits at 26:
- Between Joseph Lyons' birth on 15 September 1879 and James Milne Wilson's death on 29 February 1880, the following premiers were alive: William Champ, William Weston, Francis Smith, Thomas Chapman, James Whyte, James Milne Wilson, Frederick Innes, Alfred Kennerley, Thomas Reibey, Philip Fysh, William Giblin, William Crowther, Adye Douglas, James Agnew, Henry Dobson, Edward Braddon, Elliott Lewis, William Propsting, John Evans, John Earle, Albert Solomon, Walter Lee, John Hayes, Joseph Lyons, John McPhee, and Edmund Dwyer-Gray.
- Since the appointment of Bill Neilson on 31 March 1975 (a period of 49 years, 236 days), there have been at least three premiers living, and since the appointment of Robin Gray on 26 May 1982 (a period of 42 years, 180 days), there have been at least six premiers living.
Oldest living premiers of Tasmania[edit]
Not all premiers live to become the oldest of their time. Of the 36 deceased premiers, 13 eventually became the oldest of their time, while 23 did not (including both premiers who died in office, and 21 others). Angus Bethune became the oldest living premier when Robert Cosgrove died in 1969 and remained so until his death in 2004 for a record 34 years and 363 days. Francis Smith became the oldest living premier when Adye Douglas died in 1906, but he survived Douglas by only 2 years and 282 days.
On one occasion the oldest living premier lost this distinction not by his death, but due to the appointment of a premier who was older. William Champ lost this distinction when Thomas Gregson was appointed, but when William Weston died in 1888, Champ regained it again until his own death in 1892 for a total period of 4 years and 303 days.
Thomas Reibey was the oldest to acquire this distinction at the age of 87 years and 115 days. Eric Reece, who was aged 90 years and 109 days when he died, on 23 October 1999 was the oldest premier to die without ever acquiring this distinction. Jim Bacon who died on 20 June 2004 aged 54 years and 36 days is the most recent premier to die without ever acquiring this distinction.
