Magical Creatures Sanctuary (formerly Magical Creatures of Hamakua - Animal Rescue & Sanctuary) is a 501(c)(3)[1] nonprofit farmed animal rescue and sanctuary on the Big Island of Hawaii. The sanctuary provides care for more than 100 goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, cows, and cats.[2] The sanctuary is open to the public by appointment only.

History[edit]

Magical Creatures was founded in 2018 by Helena & Mathias Lundblad.[3] It is located in Laupahoehoe on the Hamakua coast of Hawaii Island. The sanctuary is entirely volunteer-run.[4][2] Following the Kilauea volcano eruption in 2018, the sanctuary doubled in size overnight as it took in 21 animals rescued from the lava flow.[5][4]

One of the sanctuaries residents, a sheep named Menina who was born with front leg deformities, was featured on an episode of BYUtv's "Wizard of Paws" show.[6]
