"Mama's Favorite" (stylized in all caps) is a song by the American rapper Kanye West featuring Nine Vicious. It appears as the seventh track from West's twelfth studio album, Bully (2026). Described as a vulnerable song,[1] the song features a sample of West's late mother, Donda West, taken from the documentary series Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy.[2] It peaked at number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 18 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Background
Following the death of his mother Donda West in 2007, West frequently dedicated music and projects to her memory, including his 2021 album Donda. On March 24, 2026, West posted a new tracklist for the album, promising it would feature "no AI". The track list revealed "Mama's Favorite" was set to release as the seventh track of Bully.[3] The song was first previewed during the Bully listening party in Inglewood on March 27, 2026, one day before the album's release.[4] The livestream for the listening party was removed from public view several hours later. On March 28, the album was released on streaming services, one day later than originally intended.[5] An updated mix of the song was included on the deluxe edition of Bully, released June 19, 2026.[6]
Critical Reception
Michael Saponara of Billboard ranked “Mama's Favorite” eighth among the 18 tracks on Bully, praising its place among West's songs about his late mother. He highlighted West's soft, melodic delivery and the song's outro, which incorporates a conversation between West and Donda previously featured in Jeen-Yuhs.[7] Taiyo Coates of "RAPTV" ranked “Mama’s Favorite” sixth on his list of the ten best songs from Bully, calling it one of the album’s most integral tracks. He linked its lyrics to West's perspective on the chaos of the previous years and noted that a closing snippet of a conversation with West's late mother provides context for his confidence.[8]
Niya Desai and Leonardo Lanza of The MacArthur Chronicle described “Mama's Favorite” as an introspective song in which West reflects on his childhood and attributes his success to his mother's love, although they felt the song could also come across as an attempt to reconnect with his longtime audience.[9]
