P K. Raman was a businessman and an Indian politician, from Indian National Congress, was the MLA representing Cherthala Constituency in Alappuzha of Travancore-Cochin during 1949–1951. He defeated the legendary K. R. Gowri Amma in that contest.

Personal life[edit]

He passed ESLC in 1903. 'Kerala Coir Works', his coir exporting company founded in 1930 was one of the pioneers in coir exports from Kerala. He travelled extensively across seaports in India for coordinating and sourcing export materials. He exported coir products to Brussels, Iraq and other European countries. In the meantime, he also did Abkari business, Govt. contract and Ration Wholesale business. He was an exporter's representative in Smith committee (Smith was an ASPINWALL's manager) and Coir Minimum Wages committee headed by [Mathew Tharakan. He wrote lot of articles about coir in leading dailies including Sahodaran magazine. Also he served as the secretary for Associated Coir Shippers union. He got an opportunity to be met and blessed by social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. He undertook major construction cost of Parayakad L P School, and later he donated it to the government.

Political Life[edit]

P K Raman was elected as the MLA for Cherthala-2 constituency from 1949 to 1951.[1] He played key-role in distributing Vandenmedu farmland among hundreds of native farmers. He served as the Judge in the Village Court of Kuthiyathode. He was the founder and the first President of Parayakad Service Co-operative Bank. He also served as the chairman of the Asoka Bank which is now merged to Vijaya Bank. He was the founder and long term president of SNPS Parayakad Public Library.He was the founder and president of Parayakad Govt. L P School.He was instrumental in starting SNDP branch No.684 in Parayakad. He was the contemporary and close associate of R. Sankar and N Sreekantan Nair.
