Park Jeong-woo (Hangul:박정우; born September 28, 2004) is a South Korean singer and also member of Treasure, a boygroup under YG Entertainment. His first appearance to the public as a trainee in YG Entertainment's survival program, YG Treasure Box.

Life and Career[edit]

Early life[edit]

Jeongwoo was born on Chuseok Day September 28, 2004 in Iksan, North Jeolla, South Korea.[1] He lived there with his parents and older brother, then moved to Seoul when he was in middle school, he transferred schools from Iri Yeondeung Middle School to Sunsang Middle School. Jeongwoo is known as an active student and has participated in a student exchange program to Australia. He applied to audition for YG Entertainment when he had only two days of taking vocal classes at IB Academy and was immediately accepted as a trainee[2]

2018-2019: TREASURE BOX[edit]

When YG Entertainment announced the survival show, YG Treasure Box, Jeongwoo joined Team C because of his young age and short training time.[3] But when he was introduced for the first time, Yang Hyunsuk called him as the main opponent of Bang Yedam from Team A, his clear voice when singing 'When We Were Young' ofAdele, earned him the nickname 'Vocal Genius'.[4] In the first round, he made it into the debut line-up with 6 other participants. Unfortunately, in the second round of individual battles with non-line-up participants, he was defeated by Kim Yeon Gue after singing 'Stay' ofBlackpink together.

In the third round with unit battle format, Jeongwoo formed a unit with Haruto to perform 'Oh Yeah' of GD & TOP (ft. Park Bom) against Mashiho and Junkyu units who were in the debut line-up and managed to beat them.[5] In the fourth round, Park Jeongwoo, Haruto, Bang Yedam, Kim Seunghun, and Keita who were in the debut line-up performed the 'DNA' of BTS and faced off against 3 other teams which also had five members. Unfortunately, they ended up in second place which resulted in Keita and Seunghun being eliminated. In the finals, Jeongwoo chose to join the vocal team with Bang Yedam and Kim Junkyu performing 'Last Dance' of BIG BANG.

Jeongwoo was not announced as a member who would debut on the final night, because in the final only 4 out of 7 members were announced directly to be selected to form TREASURE 7, the rest will be announced gradually through the V Live application.[6] Two days later, Jeongwoo was announced as the 5th member..[7] After all the members of TREASURE 7 were introduced in January 2019, the agency announced that they would launch another group from YG Treasure Box named MAGNUM 6, consisting of 6 members with 3 Japanese members in it. These two groups will be active together under the name TREASURE 13.[8]

2020-present: Debut with TREASURE[edit]

The unpleasant news came in January 2020, after Ha Yoon Bin decided to terminate the contract with the agency, the group was re-introduced as TREASURE, with 12 members.[9] TREASURE was immediately introduced through various content, starting from their own variety show entitled TREASURE MAP, interaction content with fans, TMI (Treasure Maker Interaction), and several cover music videos, one of which was 'Superstar' of Ruben Studdard[10] and 'Stuck it up' dari Liam Payne (ft. A Boogie wit da Hoodie) performed by Jeongwoo with Haruto.[11]

On August 7, 2020, Haruto debuted with Treasure with the first single 'Boy', he was involved in writing the rap lyrics for this song. TREASURE was awarded the 'Rookie of The Year' award from the Asia Artist Awards and the Golden Disk Awards. In addition to music, along with other members Jeongwoo actively appears on their own variety shows, Treasure Map and Treasure Studio with LINE FRIEND and made his acting debut through the web-drama 'It's Okay, That's Friendship' which was broadcast on the YouTube channel TREASURE (트레저).
