Sigma Beauty (/ˈsɪɡməˈbjuti/) is an American cosmetics company headquartered in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.[3] It primarily focuses on the manufacturing of cruelty-free makeup brushes, and brush care accessories.[4][5]
History[edit]
The company was founded in 2009 as an online store [6][7] by Brazilian-American couple Simone Xavier and Rene Xavier Filho in 2009.[8][9][10] In December 2012, Sigma Beauty opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Minnesota’s Mall of America.[11][12] By early 2015, the company bought a 58,000 square-foot warehouse space close to the Mall of America in Mendota Heights and shifted its headquarters.[9] In 2015, the company entered into a multi-year deal with Pennsylvania-based Radial, Inc. The latter is managing its fulfillment operations from Louisville and Shepherdsville.[13][14] In 2018, the company revealed its news eCommerce website built on Magento.[15][16][17]
The company is often considered as one of the home grown Hispanic brands catering vast diaspora of Hispanic Americans.[18][19][20]
Currently, the company's manufacturing facility is based out of China.[21]
Collaborations[edit]
In 2016, Sigma Beauty entered the Indonesian market by collaborating with Southeast Asia-based online retailer Zalora.[22]
In 2019, the Indian multi-brand beauty retailer Nykaa launched Sigma Beauty's product in the country via its e-commerce store. The launch initially covered the beauty brushes, beauty blenders, and makeup brush cleaning tools.[23] Sigma Beauty and YouTuber Jackie Aina launched a collaboration in 2020.[24][25]
Philanthropy[edit]
The company often works for the LGBT community along with the It Gets Better Project, through which a part of its earnings from the proceeds or sales goes for the community's development projects.[26][27]
In support of BLM movement, Sigma Beauty is one of the 26 companies that has extended monetary support "to organizations working to end racial injustice."[28]
