A novel that throws sparks by the Saudi writer Abdo Khal, published in 2010 and winner of the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2010, which talks about societies in the language of a person and his confessions, as he works in one of the mysterious palaces in the city of Jeddah, providing special services to the owner of the palace.[1]The author says about the novel, describing the extreme poverty and richness in it and the mixture between them, “There are luxury pens for thousands of riyals, and there are pens whose price is half a riyal, and the expensive and cheap pen is able to write what is in the mind of the holder. And between extreme wealth and abject poverty, many bodies are mashed up like padding or felt to hide the greed of that crush.”[2]
Novel story[edit]
The novel is a very dark palette, almost devoid of even areas of gray or other shades of colors. We follow the confessions of a person who works in one of the mysterious palaces in the city of Jeddah who performs special services for the owner of the palace: he simply disciplines the enemies of the over-rich businessman by They are sexually raped, while camera crews are filming the entire operation.[1] As for the palace, here is the scene of human decay, corruption and evil. The novel is a voice for the marginalized, as its characters are rarely in the spotlight and are miserable, distorted, almost destitute, offering you a style completely different from what is expected in a society whose name is associated with wealth and conservative spirit. It raises the luxurious carpets to show us the dirt that was swept under it, which the exquisite decorations of the palace could not hide, nor could its filthy smell disappear.[1]
Translation[edit]
As a result of winning the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, the novel “Tirmi Sharar” will be translated into English by translators Maya Tabet and Michael Scott and published by Bloomsbury Qatar Publishing in 2012 [3].
